This document provides an overview and resources for a lecture on systems modelling for first year engineering undergraduate students. It introduces key concepts such as derivatives, typical derivatives in mechanical and electrical systems, analogies between different system types, and examples of first order mechanical and electrical systems. Examples of modelling applications discussed include heat transfer, fluid flow, electrical circuits, and challenges involving modelling a bike, parachutist, elevator and more. The resources were developed at the University of Sheffield and include lecture notes, presentations, animations and tutorial questions.
