New – Spring forward
Daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 9. Be sure to set your clocks
ahead one hour before going to bed Saturday, March 8 so you can “spring forward.”

New – Music for Lenten Season
Memorial Chapel on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base will be hosting a
concert series on Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. during the Lenten season. The concerts run
from Thursday, March 13 through Thursday, April 10 and each concert lasts
approximately 25-30 minutes.

New – Special Operations recruiting briefing
Soldiers looking for a new career in the Army can take advantage of a Special
Operations recruit briefing at the Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Education Center
(room 218) March 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Briefing topics include: PSYOP, Civil Affairs
and Special Forces. For more information, contact the Career Counselor’s office at 703696-1321.

New – Marine Corps Exchange update
Beginning March 5, the upper parking lot at the rear of the Marine Corps
Exchange on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base will be inaccessible to patrons
through March 17, depending on weather. Pedestrian access through the area at the rear
of the MCX will be intermittently impacted during this period, when construction crews
require closing access for safety.
The Java Café will continue to open at their regular time, 7:30 a.m. weekdays, 9
a.m. Saturdays, and 10 a.m. Sundays. Patrons should use the MCX garage breezeway
entrance and proceed through the store to the Java Café. The breezeway entrance only
will be open early. For their safety, patrons are asked to obey all signage in and around
the construction site. Any concerns may be directed to MCCS Operations at 571-4831947.

New – Changes to DPW work orders
The Directorate of Public Works (DPW) JMB-HH, will cease to accept FY14
reimbursable (customer funded) Individual Job Orders (IJOs, DA 4283s) after March 31.
The only exceptions will be for life, health or safety issues; signs; keys; or those
approved by the DPW Director. For any questions please contact Mr. Jorge A. Blanco,

New – Volunteer to make dinner for barracks residents on JBM-HH
The Henderson Hall Family Readiness Officer is looking for volunteers
interested in helping provide a home-cooked (or store bought) Italian dish for the
Marines living in the barracks. The dinner will be hosted March 11 in Bldg. 416 and
food drop-off is 5 p.m. To volunteer, visit:

New – Family movie night at Henderson Hall
Headquarters Battalion, Headquarters Marine Corps, Henderson Hall is hosting
its first Family Movie Night, Saturday, March 15 in the Joe Rosenthal Theater from 6 to
8 p.m. The free event is open to service members and their families. The movie is
“Frozen.” To RSVP, contact the Henderson Hall Family Readiness Officer, Renee Lilley
at Barbara.lilley@usmc.mil or 703-697-7342. Concessions will be on sale in support of
the Marine Corps Ball Committee.

New – State Department Federal Credit Union operating hours
The State Department Federal Credit Union on the Fort McNair portion of Joint Base
Myer-Henderson Hall is extending operating hours. The aim is to align operating hours
at all branches of the State Department FCU as well as extend lobby hours and make it
easier for members to remember the hours of operation.
The new hours that will go into effect March 17, 2014 are Monday through Friday,
8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon. Current hours are 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

New – Threat Awareness and Reporting training
The next Threat Awareness and Reporting (TARP) training will be held March 18
at 10 a.m. in the Town Hall, Bldg. 243 on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base. For

New – EEO posters available for pick up
New Equal Employment Opportunity posters available for pick up and have
been placed in distribution boxes in the Headquarters Command, Bldg. 59. These
posters should be placed on office bulletin boards. If additional posters are needed,
contact the EEO office at 703-696-6258.

Take a trip to New York City with MWR
Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation is taking a
day trip to New York City Saturday, March 8. The cost is $50 and departs from the Fort
Myer portion of the joint base at 5 a.m. and departs New York City at 4 p.m. At least 40
people need to register for the trip to take place. Contact the Community Center at 703696-3469 to sign up.

NEC Geek Squad MS Outlook training
The NEC Geek Squad will host Microsoft Outlook training sessions March 24
and 28 from 10-11 a.m. and 1-2 p.m. The training will focus on the calendar and contact
functions within Outlook. The classes are limited to 20 people each.

Changes at the Fort Myer Exchange
The Fort Myer Exchange now have new operating hours. The Exchange will be
open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6
p.m.
The Subway restaurant located in the Shoppette is relocated and open in the Fort
Myer Exchange Mall.
The Dry Clearners, relocated from the Shoppette, GNC, Pentagon Federal Credit
Union, Optical Shop and the Flower Shop are all operational and located in the Fort
Myer Exchange Mall for a one-stop shop resource for patrons.

Pentagon Federal Credit Union ATM fee changes
Beginning March 1, the Pentagon Federal Credit Union ATM surcharge fee will
increase from $1.50 to $3.00 for NON-members who use PenFed ATMS on all military
installations. All PenFed members using their PenFed card will continue to have ATM
service without a surcharge.

Catholic Lent/Easter schedule
All services will be held at the Memorial Chapel on the Fort Myer portion of the
joint base unless otherwise stated.
Ash Wednesday Mass and distribution of ashes is March 5 at the Fort Myer
Memorial Chapel at noon and 6 p.m. and at Fort McNair NDU (location TBD) at noon.
Stations of the Cross will be held at 6 p.m. March 7, 14, 21, 28, and April 4 and 11
at the Memorial Chapel on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH. Stations of the Cross will
be followed by a penitential supper in the Fellowship Hall at 6:30 p.m.
Lenten Retreat at Memorial Chapel will be held March 30 at 6 p.m., first session,
no meal; March 31 meal at 6 p.m. and second session at 6:45 p.m.; April 1 meal at 6 p.m.
and penance service at 6:45 p.m.; April meal at 6 p.m. and final session at 6:45 p.m.
Palm Sunday, Rite of Blessing and Procession of Palms mass will be held April
12 at 5 p.m. and April 13 at 9 a.m.
April 14-16, Mass will be held at noon. There will not be noon Mass April 17-18.
Holy Week Triduum Liturgies:
April 17: Holy Thursday, Liturgy of the Lord’s Supper mass at 6 p.m. There will
be no other Mass that day.
April 18: Good Friday, Liturgy of Our Lord’s Passion and Death at 6 p.m. There
will be no other Mass that day.
April 19: Holy Saturday, Easter Vigil Mass at 7:30 p.m.
April 20: Solemn Easter Sunday Mass at 9 a.m.

Registration open for Shamrock Shuffle 5K
JBM-HH Commanders Race Series kicks off its 2014 season, March 14 with the
Shamrock Shuffle 5K Run and 1 mile walk. Race begins at 6:30 a.m. at the Myer Fitness
Center, Bldg. 414. Registration is FREE and the first 90 registrants will receive a
Shamrock Shuffle T-shirt. You can register on-line at

&oseq&c&ch until midnight, March 12. Race Day registration will be accepted at the
Myer Fitness Center from 5:30 to 6:15 a.m. Awards will be presented for Largest
Military Unit, Top Male and Female Finishers of the 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk, along
with Top Finishers for each age division in the 5K. For further information or

Be on the lookout for registration information for the April 4th - Cherry Blossom
Race Along the River 3.5K run and 1.5K walk at Fort McNair.

workshops, entrepreneur and smart investment seminars, federal resume workshops
and more.

ACAP supports spouses in transition
Army Career and Alumni Program offers services to the spouses of military
personnel who are transitioning: both retiring or ETSing (Expiration of Term in Service).
Some of the services offered to transitioning spouses include one-on-one assistance
with a resume, a Veterans Affairs benefits briefing, Department of Labor Employment
Workshop (includes the interview process, dress for success, building a resume, salary
negotiation) and financial planning.
More services include classes on home buying, credit scores, investing, TRICARE,
finding and applying for federal jobs and much more.
If your spouse is preparing to transition from the military -- retiring or ETSing, make
an appointment with ACAP.

Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area offers
child, spouse scholarships
The Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area provides
scholarships for children (high school students and college students) and spouses of U.
S. Army personnel. Funds for the scholarships are from the Fort Myer Thrift Shop.
Applications for the three programs must be mailed to the Thrift Shop by March 28,
2014.

Family Readiness
Tax Centers open, free!
Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall has TWO (2 – count ‘em) tax centers to take care of
all of us at tax time.
 There is the Military District of Washington Tax Center on the Fort Myer portion
of the joint base in Building 205 (new location from previous years) 101 Bloxon
Street. This Tax Center is now open for appointments or walk-ins Monday
through Friday and every other Saturday (Monday, Wednesday and Friday -8:30 to 4 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday – 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and every other
Saturday, Feb. 8-April 12 – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – walk ins only.
 There is the Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps Tax Center aboard the Henderson
Hall portion of the joint base, Building 29, Room 105. They are open now from 8
a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointments are not necessary, but
appointments are available for more complex tax returns. Bring your military ID,
all W2s, all 1099s, 1098s, etc., social security cards for all family members, EIN for
day care providers, all documents supporting deductions and credits, copies of
your 2012 federal and state tax returns, tax power of attorney or IRS form 2848
(POA). Call 703-693-7001 for more information and to make an appointment.

Stress management
Participants will be given information on the basics of identifying stressors in
their life and how to create their own stress management plan. Class is held March 12
from 9-11 a.m. in Bldg. 201 on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH. Registration required.

Anger management
Individuals will receive information on the basic principles of emotions management,
specific information about the impact of unmanaged anger, and receive resources on
how to recognize and manage the anger triggers in their own lives. Class is held March
19 from 9-11 a.m. in Bldg. 201 on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH. Registration

Coupled for life
This personality training is designed to help develop a better understanding of
your partner’s personality, provide tools to enhance communication skills, and tips for
overcoming personality challenges. Each participant will receive an individual
personality assessment, training materials and a personality exercise. The class will be
held March 13 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in Bldg. 405 on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH.

Baby Bundles
Prepare your home and your relationship for the changes that are needed you’re
your baby arrives. A brief overview of the labor and deliver process, newborn care and
baby proofing your home will be discussed. Individuals will receive a bay of free baby
care and safety items. Class is held March 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. in Bldg. 201 on the Fort
Myer portion of JBM-HH. Registration required. For questions: 703-696-3512 or

Anger Management workshops offered
Marine & Family Programs offers anger management workshops weekly,
Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. The workshops are designed to teach eight tools for
managing anger. Participants may start at any time, but must attend all eight sessions to
receive a certificate of completion.
Sessions are in Building 12’s conference room on the Henderson Hall portion of the
joint base. The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members, and
military retirees. To register, please call 703-614-7204.

Stress workshops held Tuesdays
Marine & Family Programs offers workshops on coping with work and family stress
on an ongoing basis. The 12-session, evidence-based series, designed to teach strategies
for dealing with stressors, is held Tuesdays, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., in Bldg. 12’s conference
room on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. Topics include identifying
stressors, deep breathing and muscle relaxation, assertive communication, changing
yourself talk, eating right, exercise and developing a personal stress management plan.
The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members and military
retirees.

Be sure to set your clocks ahead one hour before going to bed Saturday, March 8 so you can “spring forward.” New – Music for Lenten Season Memorial Chapel on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base will be hosting a concert series on Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. during the Lenten season. The concerts run from Thursday, March 13 through Thursday, April 10 and each concert lasts approximately 25-30 minutes. New – Special Operations recruiting briefing Soldiers looking for a new career in the Army can take advantage of a Special Operations recruit briefing at the Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Education Center (room 218) March 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Briefing topics include: PSYOP, Civil Affairs and Special Forces. New – Marine Corps Exchange update Beginning March 5, the upper parking lot at the rear of the Marine Corps Exchange on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base will be inaccessible to patrons

Pedestrian access through the area at the rear of the MCX will be intermittently impacted during this period, when construction crews require closing access for safety. The Java Café will continue to open at their regular time, 7:30 a.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. Saturdays, and 10 a.m. Sundays. Patrons should use the MCX garage breezeway entrance and proceed through the store to the Java Café. The breezeway entrance only will be open early. For their safety, patrons are asked to obey all signage in and around the construction site. Any concerns may be directed to MCCS Operations at 571-4831947. New – Changes to DPW work orders The Directorate of Public Works (DPW) JMB-HH, will cease to accept FY14 reimbursable (customer funded) Individual Job Orders (IJOs, DA 4283s) after March 31. New – Volunteer to make dinner for barracks residents on JBM-HH The Henderson Hall Family Readiness Officer is looking for volunteers interested in helping provide a home-cooked (or store bought) Italian dish for the Marines living in the barracks. New – Family movie night at Henderson Hall Headquarters Battalion, Headquarters Marine Corps, Henderson Hall is hosting its first Family Movie Night, Saturday, March 15 in the Joe Rosenthal Theater from 6 to 8 p.m. The free event is open to service members and their families. New – State Department Federal Credit Union operating hours The State Department Federal Credit Union on the Fort McNair portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall is extending operating hours. The aim is to align operating hours at all branches of the State Department FCU as well as extend lobby hours and make it easier for members to remember the hours of operation. The new hours that will go into effect March 17, 2014 are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon. Current hours are 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. New – Threat Awareness and Reporting training The next Threat Awareness and Reporting (TARP) training will be held March 18 at 10 a.m. in the Town Hall, Bldg. 243 on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base. New – EEO posters available for pick up New Equal Employment Opportunity posters available for pick up and have been placed in distribution boxes in the Headquarters Command, Bldg. 59. Take a trip to New York City with MWR Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation is taking a day trip to New York City Saturday, March 8. The cost is $50 and departs from the Fort Myer portion of the joint base at 5 a.m. and departs New York City at 4 p.m. At least 40 people need to register for the trip to take place. NEC Geek Squad MS Outlook training The NEC Geek Squad will host Microsoft Outlook training sessions March 24 and 28 from 10-11 a.m. and 1-2 p.m. The training will focus on the calendar and contact functions within Outlook. Changes at the Fort Myer Exchange The Fort Myer Exchange now have new operating hours. The Exchange will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Subway restaurant located in the Shoppette is relocated and open in the Fort Myer Exchange Mall. The Dry Clearners, relocated from the Shoppette, GNC, Pentagon Federal Credit Union, Optical Shop and the Flower Shop are all operational and located in the Fort Myer Exchange Mall for a one-stop shop resource for patrons. Pentagon Federal Credit Union ATM fee changes Beginning March 1, the Pentagon Federal Credit Union ATM surcharge fee will increase from $1.50 to $3.00 for NON-members who use PenFed ATMS on all military installations. Ash Wednesday Mass and distribution of ashes is March 5 at the Fort Myer Memorial Chapel at noon and 6 p.m. and at Fort McNair NDU (location TBD) at noon. Stations of the Cross will be held at 6 p.m. March 7, 14, 21, 28, and April 4 and 11 at the Memorial Chapel on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH. Stations of the Cross will be followed by a penitential supper in the Fellowship Hall at 6:30 p.m. Lenten Retreat at Memorial Chapel will be held March 30 at 6 p.m., first session, no meal; March 31 meal at 6 p.m. and second session at 6:45 p.m.; April 1 meal at 6 p.m. and penance service at 6:45 p.m.; April meal at 6 p.m. and final session at 6:45 p.m. Palm Sunday, Rite of Blessing and Procession of Palms mass will be held April 12 at 5 p.m. and April 13 at 9 a.m. April 14-16, Mass will be held at noon. There will not be noon Mass April 17-18. Holy Week Triduum Liturgies: April 17: Holy Thursday, Liturgy of the Lord’s Supper mass at 6 p.m. There will be no other Mass that day. April 18: Good Friday, Liturgy of Our Lord’s Passion and Death at 6 p.m. There will be no other Mass that day. April 19: Holy Saturday, Easter Vigil Mass at 7:30 p.m. April 20: Solemn Easter Sunday Mass at 9 a.m. Registration open for Shamrock Shuffle 5K JBM-HH Commanders Race Series kicks off its 2014 season, March 14 with the Shamrock Shuffle 5K Run and 1 mile walk. Race begins at 6:30 a.m. at the Myer Fitness Center, Bldg. 414. Registration is FREE and the first 90 registrants will receive a Shamrock Shuffle T-shirt. More services include classes on home buying, credit scores, investing, TRICARE, finding and applying for federal jobs and much more. Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area offers child, spouse scholarships The Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area provides scholarships for children (high school students and college students) and spouses of U. S. Army personnel. Funds for the scholarships are from the Fort Myer Thrift Shop. Applications for the three programs must be mailed to the Thrift Shop by March 28, 2014. Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall has TWO (2 – count ‘em) tax centers to take care of all of us at tax time.  There is the Military District of Washington Tax Center on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base in Building 205 (new location from previous years) 101 Bloxon Street. This Tax Center is now open for appointments or walk-ins Monday through Friday and every other Saturday (Monday, Wednesday and Friday -8:30 to 4 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday – 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and every other Saturday, Feb. 8-April 12 – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – walk ins only.  There is the Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps Tax Center aboard the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base, Building 29, Room 105. They are open now from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointments are not necessary, but appointments are available for more complex tax returns. Bring your military ID, all W2s, all 1099s, 1098s, etc., social security cards for all family members, EIN for day care providers, all documents supporting deductions and credits, copies of your 2012 federal and state tax returns, tax power of attorney or IRS form 2848 (POA). Anger Management workshops offered Marine & Family Programs offers anger management workshops weekly, Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. The workshops are designed to teach eight tools for managing anger. Sessions are in Building 12’s conference room on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members, and military retirees. To register, please call 703-614-7204. Stress workshops held Tuesdays Marine & Family Programs offers workshops on coping with work and family stress on an ongoing basis. The 12-session, evidence-based series, designed to teach strategies for dealing with stressors, is held Tuesdays, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., in Bldg. 12’s conference room on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. Topics include identifying stressors, deep breathing and muscle relaxation, assertive communication, changing yourself talk, eating right, exercise and developing a personal stress management plan.
