- STEVE Good morning everyone and welcome to this workshop on Mobile Learning in Practice and launch of the Mobile Learning Infokit. Firstly, we would like to introduce our co-presenters who have very kindly joined us today in order to share with you the work that they are doing with this type of technology within their institutions. INTRODUCE PRESENTERS The format of todays session is as follows: you are (hopefully) sitting at one of four tables and we have, not coincidentally, four co-presenters. Once we’ve finished our introduction each co-presenter will go to one of the tables where they will have precisely ten minutes to take you through the apps they have used in their work. They’ll then rotate to a different table and the process will be repeated. After 40 minutes everyone should have seen each co-presenter, at which time they’ll return to the table and we’ll hold a brief panel session for the remainder of the hour.
- TRACEY This workshop, therefore, has been born out of the Mobile Learning Infokit project that began last September. The need was identified to provide evidence of the use of app based learning to enhance teaching and learning and we put a call out to the HE and FE community for video case studies of this practice. We selected 30 proposals and received 19 submissions showcasing work going on with this technology and 4 of which you will here from today. The video case studies have been entirely put together by the institutions themselves with support from us in the Digital Media team, although the objective was never to produce a professional looking video but to convey the pedagogical benefits from both staff and students. The work that these institutions put in was exceptional and we must thank them all again for taking the time to be a part of this and indeed many have commented on how the staff and students involved had enjoyed the process and had gained a lot in terms of adding to their digital skills.
