internship with NBA Cares before her collegiate career ends.

In addition to her internship and school, Nici is also a manager at her family’s local
owned floral shop, Blossoms Florist Inc. She has been a part of this business since the
age of six. She now is one of three floral designers at the shop and has had her work
featured on theknot.com, (Cincinnati Bridal) magazine and other local magazines.

community service, arts and crafts, traveling, mentoring, watching/following sports and
hanging out with friends. Nici is a fan of the Cincinnati Bengals, the Cleveland Cavaliers,
the University of Cincinnati Bearcats football and basketball teams, Terrell Owens,
Brandon Marshall, Vernon Davis and the Jamaican track and field teams.

Sports Public Relations

The Cincinnati Sports Professionals Network held a meeting discussing

harnessing social media in Cincinnati sports. The panel consisted of: Michael Anderson,

the Public Relations Manager for the Cincinnati Reds, Maureen Hester, a Xavier

Women’s Basketball Player, Dan Mahan, a contributor to OMGreds.com, Kevin McGuff,

the Head Coach of Xavier Women’s basketball team, Jackie Reau, CEO of Game Day

Communications, Joe Reedy, the Bengals Beat Writer at the Cincinnati Enquirer, C.

Trent Rosecrans, the founder of cnati.com and John Thornton, founder of Jockbiz and

AllProBlogger.com.

The panel explained how to get into social media. The pamphlet expressed how to

get started with Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube. The discussion included how social

media has affected them personally in their careers. They expressed the importance that

social networking has had on the industry such as Chad Ochocinco tweeting team

information breaking a story before the beat writer could. Kevin said that his staff will

look at the facebook profiles of incoming athletes or prospective athletes. Lots of jobs are

starting to do the same.

The panel then discussed how social media could help expand businesses. So far

it’s a mixed response. Some companies have gone as far as to hire young people straight

out of college to head their “Social Media” department. That area of companies is not

very experienced since social media is still a growing market. Many

companies and sports teams are heavily relying on social media to

expand their fan bases and customer awareness. They do this through

incentives and they track how many people used social media to get that incentive. The

panel discussed how since social media is so new that it will interesting to see how it will

affect the sports industry.

John Thornton quoted, “Social Media is like supplements in weightlifting, you

never know what you’re going to get”. The rest of the panel agreed but they also stated

that it is one of fastest growing uses of communication and that it could be very

beneficial to businesses and to sports teams to build clientele and a large fanbase.

“As far as a replacement for head coach, we have yet to consider

anyone. We will begin looking at people soon since this has come to us

as a surprise. Coach Tressel has also offered to assist us in the hiring of

his replacement. We look to gain someone with lots of experience and a winning coach,

but they will have big shoes to fill.” Quoted Athletic Director, Gene Smith.

Coach Tressel has issued a statement saying:

“I have had more than the nine years with the Buckeyes. We have shared great

memories and great football. If situations were different I would continue to coach the

Buckeyes but for now my health takes precedence over everything else. I wish my

coaching staff, the university and most importantly my players the best and I will also

support The Ohio State Buckeye Football Program.”

GAME ADVANCE:

Sport Administration Major/ProCamps Intern
The number eight ranked University of Cincinnati Bearcats are traveling down to face the

University of South Bulls. The Bearcats and the Bulls are both entering into this game

undefeated. This will be a great game to watch.

Some key players to look out for on the Bercats are Quarterback, Tony Pike, Wide

Reciver, Mardy Gilyard, Tight End Ben Guidugli, and Running Back Jacob Ramsey.

These four players have put up big numbers for the Bearcats in the past wins that they

have had over Oregon State, Fresno State and Miami of Oxford. A key player for the

University of South Florida is freshman Quarterback, Bj Davis. He has an impressive

running and passing game.

               UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA BULLS

POST GAME WRAP:

The University of Cincinnati Bearcats were victorious over the University of South

Florida Bulls in their match up Thursday. The final score was 34-17. The Bearcats

offense was too much for the Bulls to handle. Unfortunately the Bearcats lost their

starting quarter Tony Pike to a wrist injury midway through the game. His injuries should

not cost him his season.

Head Coach Brian Kelly had to rely on sophomore Quarterback, Zach Collaros to finish

the game. Coming off the bench Collaros rushed for a seventy-five yard touch down that

stunned the defense. South Florida’s Quarterback kept the Bearcats running the enitre

game but it just wasn’t enough to take the victory. The Bearcats wide receiver, Armon

Binns had an incredible game scoring two touchdowns, Collaros had two touchdowns

himself. It was a quiet game for Mardy Gilyard but he did assist in the Bearcats victory.

The Bearcats go on undefeated to play the University of Louisville Cardinals for their

Homecoming Game. The University of South Florida will play Pittsburgh.
