3. • Community groups that want to use the airwaves to reach
local audiences suddenly have a new opportunity, thanks
to some esoteric rulings by the Federal Communications
Commission in late March.
• The FCC voted on several rulings that effectively open up
low power FM spectrum for use by local non-profit IRS
501(c) 3 groups to set up radio stations, according to the
agency’s March 19 announcement.
• Together, the rulings "further implement the Local
Community Radio Act," it said, naming an act that was
passed a decade ago, but never fully implemented because
of challenges from big commercial radio stations.

It's very possible! At this time, there may be room for as
many as 10 new community radio station(s) in your zip code,
but only with a special waiver of the FCC rules. The FCC is
currently setting rules to determine when such waivers can
be used. Tell the FCC that HILL CITY needs community
radio and that new stations should be allowed wherever
possible.
The FCC will be taking applications for new stations as
early as Winter 2012. What could your community do with
