Locations
I will be using multiple locations for my production.
One of the places I will be going to take photos is
Sheffield because of its botanical gardens. I am
mainly interested in the Grade II listed glass
pavilion as I feel this will capture the best shots for
my project. Sheffield's botanical gardens boasts
5000 species of plants on an impressive 19 acres
of land which will help me capture a variety of
shots.
Address: Clarkehouse Rd, Sheffield S10 2LN
Here is a selection of photos that are similar to the
pictures I will be taking myself.
The negative of using this location is the amount of
natural light that will be in the images. Due to my
experiments being on images being on images with
lower light I will have to edit the camera settings in
order to achieve the same effect. Also if I wanted to
have any images with darker areas, this will be
difficult in a well lit greenhouse.
Locations
Another location I will be using for my project is
The Winter Garden in Sheffield. This is very similar
to the botanical gardens however it is on a much
smaller scale. The Winter Garden has more than
2500 plants from around the world and is housed in
a glass building which is more than 70 meters long
and 22 meters high. By taking multiple pictures
across both glass gardens I will collect a wide
range of images I can edit to suit my style.
Address: 90 Surrey St, Sheffield S1 2LH
Here is a selection of photos that are similar to the
pictures I will be taking myself.
The downside of using the Winter Garden for my
photography is that there is frequent events hosted
inside. This would affect my photography as I
would only be able to utilise a small area of the
Winter Garden for my photography. To avoid this I
will check on the Winter Garden website as well as
any event pages for Sheffield so I can plan to go
when nothing is on.
Locations
Another location I may use is Manchester’s
Chinatown. I like the idea of taking images here
because it is very fitting with the vaporwave genre.
Due to vaporwave taking a lot of inspiration from
Asian culture I feel that Chinatown will showcase
this inspiration well. As well as inspiration,
Chinatown has a lot of neon signs and lights which
I want to use in my pictures as this again fits very
well with the vaporwave theme. The reason I chose
Manchester is because it is the second largest
Chinatown in the UK and therefor will offer a very
wide range of photo opportunities.
Address: Greater Manchester, M1
Here is a selection of photos that are similar to the
pictures I will be taking myself.
The main problem with this location is the fact I will
have to take all my pictures at night. This won’t
give me very long to take the photos I need and we
would be limited on time due to having to get a
train back from Manchester to York.
Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be avoided
Tripping over wires Tape down any wires that have to be across the floor however I will be using
wireless products where possible
Studio lights shining in eyes Position the models so they aren’t staring directly into the studio light
Heat from studio lights Don’t touch the studio lights or get too close to them
Fatigue Take regular breaks from both modelling and photography
Lost or stolen equipment Don’t leave any equipment unattended
Carrying equipment Don’t lift more than you can carry. Always lift from the knees to avoid any injury
to your back
Slips, trips and falls Know your surroundings and don’t walk blindly around corners. Do a possible
check of the location yourself before you bring anyone to it.
Weather related issues such as rain or sun Wear suitable clothing for the weather of that day. An umbrella may be needed
if raining and sun cream if sunny. Worth noting if it is rainy and pictures need to
be taken outside bring and extra umbrella for the camera.
Using non P.A.T (Portable Appliance Testing)
electronics
Make sure any appliances you intend to plug in are P.A.T tested
Going to a location and not telling people where I
am
Notify multiple people of where I am going and an estimated time I am expected
to return
Finance
The main cost for my FMP will be the cost of train and travel to get to and from the places I am taking photos. As well as trains and
travel I will also have to consider any props I may use within my photography work. A list of average prices can be seen below:
Here is the cost of train travel to both Sheffield and Manchester. The cost however is for only 1 person so I will need to take into
consideration the cost of the people who will be modelling for me. I will book the trains in advance in order to get the cheapest price.
This price is likely to change however if I book it approximantly 4 weeks in advance the prices should be very similar to the ones
above.
Finance
The props I may use within my project are all related to how the light will effect my photo. I have chosen a range of different
reflective prisms and mirrors in order to achieve a variety of different results from my image. The cost of these props can be seen
below:
Time
Here I created a Gantt Chart in order to visualise a time schedule for the production of my fanzine. I will start by creating my front
and back cover of my fanzine as these don’t require me to take any photos. All of the photography will come slightly later in my
production as I need to book trains to Manchester and Sheffield. Many of my tasks overlap however this is okay as I will be working
on multiple areas at one time and will be flicking between taking photos, editing photos and creating my own artwork.
Personnel
Throughout my project I will need to use multiple models in my work. I will be taking pictures of my models in the studio at college
as well as when I am outside college is my shooting locations.
Whilst at college I will be taking pictures of Thomas Batty and Jack Henderson as their fashion sense and style fits in very well with
the theme of my project. Whilst out in other shooting locations however I will be using Amber Craig as she again fits in with the
overall aesthetic of my vaporwave fanzine.
Amber Craig
Contact Number: 07512 850076
Jack Henderson
Contact Number: 07903 338422
Thomas Batty
Contact Number: 07841 592527
Camera
For the photography aspect of my project I will have the choice of 2 cameras to use. I will use the Canon 700D when at college in
the studio and my personal Nikon D200 when going to locations outside of college. The Nikon D200 also comes with a wide angle
lens which will be useful for taking pictures that I want across a double page spread.
Colour Schemes
To get a basic understanding of the colour
schemes used within other pieces of
vaporwave artwork, I used Adobe Color and
uploaded the 3 images seen along the right
and using the colour picker tool I highlighted
prominent colours that can be seen in the
images.
The colours that are seen along the right are
a good idea of the colours I should be using
within my own pieces. I have used a range of
different images however all still come under
the vaporwave genre. By doing this I get a
wide understanding of the colours used
within the vaporwave genre.
The colours that are used in more than 1
image are the most common within the
vaporwave genre. In this case the most
common colours are purple and pink which
is what id expect from the vaporwave genre.
To make an image that follows the
vaporwave genre I will most likely have to
incorporate these colours into my images.
Colour Schemes
Here I created multiple different colour palettes
using Adobe Color. I started with my main colour
which has the HEX value of ED5FFD. The reason
I chose this colour is because it is the most
common colour used with vaporwave images. By
building my colour schemes around this colour I
assure that I stick within the vaporwave genre.
Screenshot 1 shows shades that match my main
colour. This shows the variations of purple that I
could use within my piece.
Screenshot 2 shows a custom colour palette that
will most likely be my main colour scheme
throughout my fanzine. It features the main colour
of the vaporwave genre which is purple as well as
a turquoise and aqua which are also very common
colours within the genre.
Screenshot 3 shows the analogous colours. This
means the colours that are similar. This helps to
visualise which colours are considered similar and
therefor could be considered as suitable for my
fanzine.

Fonts
Here I have made a selection of fonts that may feature throughout my fanzine. The top 3 fonts
along the left are fonts that will be used in the images I create, for example the font VCR OSD
Mono will be used in my images that have the VHS filter. The other fonts I have selected that
may be used within images are Road Rage and Streamster. These fonts will be used in the
images when I need to create a vaporwave style title. Both Road Rage and Streamster are
very good fonts for titles as they contrast the 80’s and 90’s block text very well.
The bottom 3 fonts I have selected are options for the masthead for my magazine. This is
because they are very simple fonts and don’t steal the focus. I want the main focus throughout
the fanzine to be the images that are being showcased and not the masthead or titles. The
fonts Walkway and Dolce Vita both have a mix of straight edges and very circular letters. The
fonts are also very easy to read would give a clean overall look to the front cover.
Fonts
Here is a selection of fonts that may be used in some of the
images I create. The reason I chose these fonts is because
they fit in with style of the 80’s and 90’s vaporwave genre.
Many of the fonts are associated with 80’s sci-fi which is a
strong theme within the vaporwave genre. This is due to
films like Tron and Blade Runner having titles of a very
similar style. These fonts will most likely have a chrome
effect and neon colours to really empahsise the 80’s sci-fi
feel. These fonts will most likely be supported by some of
the fonts I mentioned earlier such as Streamster and Road
Rage.
Fonts
Due to the vaporwave genre taking a lot of inspiration from
Japanese culture I will be including Japanese characters within
my work. The reason I chose this font is because it has a very
cartoon feel to it which is what I want due to vaporwave having
a lot of reference to anime throughout the genre.
Due to my fanzine being more of a look book I wont be having
large articles of text and instead will be having smaller captions
relating to the images. The font I will be using for this will most
likely be Times New Roman due to it being a very popular and
recognised font within the vaporwave genre. This is because
Times New Roman has been on all windows operating systems
since the beginning. This nostalgia is what people expect from
vaporwave.
The bottom 2 fonts famous fonts from Miami Vice and Sega.
The reason I want to use these within my work is because it
references pop culture from the 80’s and 90’s which is one of
the main themes in vaporwave.
Graphics
I will be using multiple ways to source my graphics
and assets that I will be using throughout my
fanzine. The main sites will be google images as
this gives me the broadest library to choose from
as well as kiss png where I can find specific
vaporwave collections. All of the graphics and
assets I use will be edited in some way in order to
make it unique to my own work and also to avoid
any copyright infringement which I will have to
take into account when publishing this fanzine.
Another source for the vaporwave graphics will be
myself as I will use photoshop in order to create
some of my own graphics. These will most likely
be very similar to graphics I can find however I
would have my own unique take on them. This
would also avoid any copyright infringement as I
would be making them myself.
Image Style
Here is the first of my mood boards. It
features of many different styles that all
fit under the vaporwave genre. The most
notable features that can be seen
throughout the mood board is the use of
colours such as green, blue, pink and
purple. All of these colours are very
common and will feature heavily
throughout my fanzine. The style of the
images is also something I will mimic in
my own work with the distortion,
unrealistic imagery and fluid textures.
Image Style
Here is the second of my mood boards.
It features of many different styles that
all fit under the vaporwave genre. The
most notable features that can be seen
throughout the mood board is the use of
colours such as green, blue, pink and
purple. All of these colours are very
common and will feature heavily
throughout my fanzine. The style of the
images is also something I will mimic in
my own work with the distortion,
unrealistic imagery and fluid textures.
Layout Plans
Here I am going to feature some
smaller images that related closely
to the vaporwave genre. I am
unsure as to what I will be putting
here
The bottom text of my front cover is
going to simply say fanzine in a
simple, easy to read font such as
Walkway. I am going to put it at the
bottom as it will fill in the blank
space there
The title of my front cover is going to
most likely be in the font of Dolce
Vita as this font is quite a simple yet
sharp font which makes it stand out
quite well. I am going to split the
word vaporwave down the middle in
order to create an effect of distortion
within the title.
I want my front cover to feature a
box in the centre to create a
contained area for the images and
to separate them clearly from the
text
The main subject of the front cover
is going to be the Helios Greek
statue as this is the most common
image linked to vaporwave in my
opinion. I am doing this again to
make people think of vaporwave
right from the front cover
The background colour for this front
cover is going to be a colour that
links vey closely to the vaporwave
genre. This is so, when people pick
up the fanzine or see it somewhere
they instantly think of the vaporwave
genre before looking at any of the
fanzine
Page 1
Page 2
Page 3
Page 4
Page 5
Page 6
Page 7
Page 8
Page 9
Layout Plans The title for this page is going to be a simple line of
text as I don’t want the first page of my fanzine to be
too cluttered and hard to navigate. The font I hope to
use for the contents is the Walkway font. It is very
rounded font and is very clear and easy to read.
The left side of the page is
going to feature a circle with
a single image in the centre
of it. This image is most
likely going to link to the
Greek statues which are one
of the most iconic images
linked to vaporwave artwork.
Here I am going to have the
names of each piece of
artwork in order going top to
bottom along each column.
The font I will most likely use
will be the Walkway font as it
fits with the title of the page.
The dolphins that can be seen on the top of the
page are again very common in other pieces of
vaporwave artwork. I hope to make the rings
myself using the 3D feature in photoshop.
The centre piece of this
page is going to be a picture
of one of my college
classmates in which I am
going to add a glitch effect to
in order to distort the image
slightly. I am using Rick from
Rick and Morty in order to
give an idea of the size it will
be.
Due to the iconic design
featured on the original
green tea Arizona it has
become a common image
used within the vaporwave
genre. I am going to feature
them in my own work.
Layout Plans
Here is the layout plan for another one of my
double page spreads. For this double page
spread I hope to have 2 photos that I have
taken myself and edited in a similar style to the
layout plan that can be seen on the left. The
images that I will be using will have a strong
emphasis on nature. I will hopefully be going to
the Sheffield botanical gardens as mentioned in
previous slides. The editing style I hope to use
on these images will be very similar to the edit I
did in the style of Noealz on my Problem
Solving PowerPoint. The page will have a
strong hue of purple from each photo and will be
bordered with a solid pastel colour that
contrasts the purple. I hope to include a couple
of these double page spreads in my fanzine and
each double page spread will have a different
background colour.
Layout Plans
Here I hope to create a VHS style landscape
picture split into 2 separate sections. To achieve
an authentic looking VHS effect I will use the
skills and tips I got from the experiment I did for
the problem solving section of the FMP. I will
use the same font which is VCR OSD Mono to
give an authentic feel. I will also distort the
image quite significantly as this is a very
aesthetic within the vaporwave genre. The
reason am going to split the image down the
middle is to add another layer of distortion to the
image by splitting it up. The images I am going
to use for this effect will be taken by me and I
am going to try make sure the images I use
don’t have an important subject in the centre as
I feel it would ruin the image slightly if I distorted
the image too much.
Layout Plans
The main subject of this
image is going to be a large
centre piece of text in the
same style as the Outrun
Retro text I experimented
with in the Problem Solving
section of the FMP. I hope
to use a similar colour
scheme to the Outrun Retro
style with the chrome and
the pinky-purple. I am
unsure as to what I will have
written with the text yet
however it will be linked
closely to the vaporwave
genre.
This page is going to be quite a simple page in terms
of what is going on. Its going to have a black
background and is going to feature a bright grid with
the classic vaporwave sun and the centre text piece.
This sun with the slits in it is
very common in vaporwave
artwork. It features a circle
with a 2 colour transitioning
gradient normally going
from top to bottom. It then
has slits along the bottom of
the circle. I am unsure as to
what colour ii am going to
have the sun yet however it
will be a colour that’s fits
with the vaporwave theme
The grid I am going to have
in this image is going to be
very similar to what is seen
in the 1982 Tron. This is
very fitting in the vaporwave
genre as it pulls a lot of
inspiration from the style
and culture on the 80’s and
90’s. I am not sure what
colour I am going to make
the grid however it will most
likely be either a neon
purple, pink or blue as these
are common neon colours
used in vaporwave artwork.
Planning Summary
I feel overall my planning is at a very high level and I am very happy with the complete document. I feel I have covered many
aspects with the planning such as colour schemes, location planning and layout plans. I feel one of the strongest aspects of my
planning is the layout plans I created. By making multiple layout plans in detail it will make production a lot easier as I will already
have a good idea about what I need to include and where I need to put it. Another strong aspect of my planning is the research I did
for the multiple locations I may be using when taking the photos for my fanzine. By looking into each location in detail I can decide
which locations will be better for my project if I cant go to all of them. The final area of my planning which I feel is strong is the
analysis I did into the colour schemes and fonts. By looking at a range of different fonts I could use as well as the colour schemes
that will work best with my projects I was able to create a good plan that if I stick to will lead to a fanzine that fits the vaporwave
genre.
Weaknesses for my planning however are the time management planning and camera planning. I feel my time management section
could have been in a lot more detail. By having it in more detail it will allow me to plan my time better and there will be less chance
of me running out of time for any of my production. The final weakness of my planning that I feel is worth notice is my camera prep.
I feel like I could have done more experiments of different settings which would allow me to have a better understanding of the
camera when it comes to production.

Complete FMP Planning

  • 2. Locations I will be using multiple locations for my production. One of the places I will be going to take photos is Sheffield because of its botanical gardens. I am mainly interested in the Grade II listed glass pavilion as I feel this will capture the best shots for my project. Sheffield's botanical gardens boasts 5000 species of plants on an impressive 19 acres of land which will help me capture a variety of shots. Address: Clarkehouse Rd, Sheffield S10 2LN Here is a selection of photos that are similar to the pictures I will be taking myself. The negative of using this location is the amount of natural light that will be in the images. Due to my experiments being on images being on images with lower light I will have to edit the camera settings in order to achieve the same effect. Also if I wanted to have any images with darker areas, this will be difficult in a well lit greenhouse.
  • 3. Locations Another location I will be using for my project is The Winter Garden in Sheffield. This is very similar to the botanical gardens however it is on a much smaller scale. The Winter Garden has more than 2500 plants from around the world and is housed in a glass building which is more than 70 meters long and 22 meters high. By taking multiple pictures across both glass gardens I will collect a wide range of images I can edit to suit my style. Address: 90 Surrey St, Sheffield S1 2LH Here is a selection of photos that are similar to the pictures I will be taking myself. The downside of using the Winter Garden for my photography is that there is frequent events hosted inside. This would affect my photography as I would only be able to utilise a small area of the Winter Garden for my photography. To avoid this I will check on the Winter Garden website as well as any event pages for Sheffield so I can plan to go when nothing is on.
  • 4. Locations Another location I may use is Manchester’s Chinatown. I like the idea of taking images here because it is very fitting with the vaporwave genre. Due to vaporwave taking a lot of inspiration from Asian culture I feel that Chinatown will showcase this inspiration well. As well as inspiration, Chinatown has a lot of neon signs and lights which I want to use in my pictures as this again fits very well with the vaporwave theme. The reason I chose Manchester is because it is the second largest Chinatown in the UK and therefor will offer a very wide range of photo opportunities. Address: Greater Manchester, M1 Here is a selection of photos that are similar to the pictures I will be taking myself. The main problem with this location is the fact I will have to take all my pictures at night. This won’t give me very long to take the photos I need and we would be limited on time due to having to get a train back from Manchester to York.
  • 5. Health and Safety Potential Issue How will the issue be avoided Tripping over wires Tape down any wires that have to be across the floor however I will be using wireless products where possible Studio lights shining in eyes Position the models so they aren’t staring directly into the studio light Heat from studio lights Don’t touch the studio lights or get too close to them Fatigue Take regular breaks from both modelling and photography Lost or stolen equipment Don’t leave any equipment unattended Carrying equipment Don’t lift more than you can carry. Always lift from the knees to avoid any injury to your back Slips, trips and falls Know your surroundings and don’t walk blindly around corners. Do a possible check of the location yourself before you bring anyone to it. Weather related issues such as rain or sun Wear suitable clothing for the weather of that day. An umbrella may be needed if raining and sun cream if sunny. Worth noting if it is rainy and pictures need to be taken outside bring and extra umbrella for the camera. Using non P.A.T (Portable Appliance Testing) electronics Make sure any appliances you intend to plug in are P.A.T tested Going to a location and not telling people where I am Notify multiple people of where I am going and an estimated time I am expected to return
  • 6. Finance The main cost for my FMP will be the cost of train and travel to get to and from the places I am taking photos. As well as trains and travel I will also have to consider any props I may use within my photography work. A list of average prices can be seen below: Here is the cost of train travel to both Sheffield and Manchester. The cost however is for only 1 person so I will need to take into consideration the cost of the people who will be modelling for me. I will book the trains in advance in order to get the cheapest price. This price is likely to change however if I book it approximantly 4 weeks in advance the prices should be very similar to the ones above.
  • 7. Finance The props I may use within my project are all related to how the light will effect my photo. I have chosen a range of different reflective prisms and mirrors in order to achieve a variety of different results from my image. The cost of these props can be seen below:
  • 8. Time Here I created a Gantt Chart in order to visualise a time schedule for the production of my fanzine. I will start by creating my front and back cover of my fanzine as these don’t require me to take any photos. All of the photography will come slightly later in my production as I need to book trains to Manchester and Sheffield. Many of my tasks overlap however this is okay as I will be working on multiple areas at one time and will be flicking between taking photos, editing photos and creating my own artwork.
  • 9. Personnel Throughout my project I will need to use multiple models in my work. I will be taking pictures of my models in the studio at college as well as when I am outside college is my shooting locations. Whilst at college I will be taking pictures of Thomas Batty and Jack Henderson as their fashion sense and style fits in very well with the theme of my project. Whilst out in other shooting locations however I will be using Amber Craig as she again fits in with the overall aesthetic of my vaporwave fanzine. Amber Craig Contact Number: 07512 850076 Jack Henderson Contact Number: 07903 338422 Thomas Batty Contact Number: 07841 592527
  • 10. Camera For the photography aspect of my project I will have the choice of 2 cameras to use. I will use the Canon 700D when at college in the studio and my personal Nikon D200 when going to locations outside of college. The Nikon D200 also comes with a wide angle lens which will be useful for taking pictures that I want across a double page spread.
  • 11. Colour Schemes To get a basic understanding of the colour schemes used within other pieces of vaporwave artwork, I used Adobe Color and uploaded the 3 images seen along the right and using the colour picker tool I highlighted prominent colours that can be seen in the images. The colours that are seen along the right are a good idea of the colours I should be using within my own pieces. I have used a range of different images however all still come under the vaporwave genre. By doing this I get a wide understanding of the colours used within the vaporwave genre. The colours that are used in more than 1 image are the most common within the vaporwave genre. In this case the most common colours are purple and pink which is what id expect from the vaporwave genre. To make an image that follows the vaporwave genre I will most likely have to incorporate these colours into my images.
  • 12. Colour Schemes Here I created multiple different colour palettes using Adobe Color. I started with my main colour which has the HEX value of ED5FFD. The reason I chose this colour is because it is the most common colour used with vaporwave images. By building my colour schemes around this colour I assure that I stick within the vaporwave genre. Screenshot 1 shows shades that match my main colour. This shows the variations of purple that I could use within my piece. Screenshot 2 shows a custom colour palette that will most likely be my main colour scheme throughout my fanzine. It features the main colour of the vaporwave genre which is purple as well as a turquoise and aqua which are also very common colours within the genre. Screenshot 3 shows the analogous colours. This means the colours that are similar. This helps to visualise which colours are considered similar and therefor could be considered as suitable for my fanzine. 1. 2. 3.
  • 13. Fonts Here I have made a selection of fonts that may feature throughout my fanzine. The top 3 fonts along the left are fonts that will be used in the images I create, for example the font VCR OSD Mono will be used in my images that have the VHS filter. The other fonts I have selected that may be used within images are Road Rage and Streamster. These fonts will be used in the images when I need to create a vaporwave style title. Both Road Rage and Streamster are very good fonts for titles as they contrast the 80’s and 90’s block text very well. The bottom 3 fonts I have selected are options for the masthead for my magazine. This is because they are very simple fonts and don’t steal the focus. I want the main focus throughout the fanzine to be the images that are being showcased and not the masthead or titles. The fonts Walkway and Dolce Vita both have a mix of straight edges and very circular letters. The fonts are also very easy to read would give a clean overall look to the front cover.
  • 14. Fonts Here is a selection of fonts that may be used in some of the images I create. The reason I chose these fonts is because they fit in with style of the 80’s and 90’s vaporwave genre. Many of the fonts are associated with 80’s sci-fi which is a strong theme within the vaporwave genre. This is due to films like Tron and Blade Runner having titles of a very similar style. These fonts will most likely have a chrome effect and neon colours to really empahsise the 80’s sci-fi feel. These fonts will most likely be supported by some of the fonts I mentioned earlier such as Streamster and Road Rage.
  • 15. Fonts Due to the vaporwave genre taking a lot of inspiration from Japanese culture I will be including Japanese characters within my work. The reason I chose this font is because it has a very cartoon feel to it which is what I want due to vaporwave having a lot of reference to anime throughout the genre. Due to my fanzine being more of a look book I wont be having large articles of text and instead will be having smaller captions relating to the images. The font I will be using for this will most likely be Times New Roman due to it being a very popular and recognised font within the vaporwave genre. This is because Times New Roman has been on all windows operating systems since the beginning. This nostalgia is what people expect from vaporwave. The bottom 2 fonts famous fonts from Miami Vice and Sega. The reason I want to use these within my work is because it references pop culture from the 80’s and 90’s which is one of the main themes in vaporwave.
  • 16. Graphics I will be using multiple ways to source my graphics and assets that I will be using throughout my fanzine. The main sites will be google images as this gives me the broadest library to choose from as well as kiss png where I can find specific vaporwave collections. All of the graphics and assets I use will be edited in some way in order to make it unique to my own work and also to avoid any copyright infringement which I will have to take into account when publishing this fanzine. Another source for the vaporwave graphics will be myself as I will use photoshop in order to create some of my own graphics. These will most likely be very similar to graphics I can find however I would have my own unique take on them. This would also avoid any copyright infringement as I would be making them myself.
  • 17. Image Style Here is the first of my mood boards. It features of many different styles that all fit under the vaporwave genre. The most notable features that can be seen throughout the mood board is the use of colours such as green, blue, pink and purple. All of these colours are very common and will feature heavily throughout my fanzine. The style of the images is also something I will mimic in my own work with the distortion, unrealistic imagery and fluid textures.
  • 18. Image Style Here is the second of my mood boards.
  • 19. Layout Plans Here I am going to feature some smaller images that related closely to the vaporwave genre. I am unsure as to what I will be putting here The bottom text of my front cover is going to simply say fanzine in a simple, easy to read font such as Walkway. I am going to put it at the bottom as it will fill in the blank space there The title of my front cover is going to most likely be in the font of Dolce Vita as this font is quite a simple yet sharp font which makes it stand out quite well. I am going to split the word vaporwave down the middle in order to create an effect of distortion within the title. I want my front cover to feature a box in the centre to create a contained area for the images and to separate them clearly from the text The main subject of the front cover is going to be the Helios Greek statue as this is the most common image linked to vaporwave in my opinion. I am doing this again to make people think of vaporwave right from the front cover The background colour for this front cover is going to be a colour that links vey closely to the vaporwave genre. This is so, when people pick up the fanzine or see it somewhere they instantly think of the vaporwave genre before looking at any of the fanzine
  • 20. Page 1 Page 2 Page 3 Page 4 Page 5 Page 6 Page 7 Page 8 Page 9 Layout Plans The title for this page is going to be a simple line of text as I don’t want the first page of my fanzine to be too cluttered and hard to navigate. The font I hope to use for the contents is the Walkway font. It is very rounded font and is very clear and easy to read. The left side of the page is going to feature a circle with a single image in the centre of it. This image is most likely going to link to the Greek statues which are one of the most iconic images linked to vaporwave artwork. Here I am going to have the names of each piece of artwork in order going top to bottom along each column. The font I will most likely use will be the Walkway font as it fits with the title of the page. The dolphins that can be seen on the top of the page are again very common in other pieces of vaporwave artwork. I hope to make the rings myself using the 3D feature in photoshop. The centre piece of this page is going to be a picture of one of my college classmates in which I am going to add a glitch effect to in order to distort the image slightly. I am using Rick from Rick and Morty in order to give an idea of the size it will be. Due to the iconic design featured on the original green tea Arizona it has become a common image used within the vaporwave genre. I am going to feature them in my own work.
  • 21. Layout Plans Here is the layout plan for another one of my double page spreads. For this double page spread I hope to have 2 photos that I have taken myself and edited in a similar style to the layout plan that can be seen on the left. The images that I will be using will have a strong emphasis on nature. I will hopefully be going to the Sheffield botanical gardens as mentioned in previous slides. The editing style I hope to use on these images will be very similar to the edit I did in the style of Noealz on my Problem Solving PowerPoint. The page will have a strong hue of purple from each photo and will be bordered with a solid pastel colour that contrasts the purple. I hope to include a couple of these double page spreads in my fanzine and each double page spread will have a different background colour.
  • 22. Layout Plans Here I hope to create a VHS style landscape picture split into 2 separate sections. To achieve an authentic looking VHS effect I will use the skills and tips I got from the experiment I did for the problem solving section of the FMP. I will use the same font which is VCR OSD Mono to give an authentic feel. I will also distort the image quite significantly as this is a very aesthetic within the vaporwave genre. The reason am going to split the image down the middle is to add another layer of distortion to the image by splitting it up. The images I am going to use for this effect will be taken by me and I am going to try make sure the images I use don’t have an important subject in the centre as I feel it would ruin the image slightly if I distorted the image too much.
  • 23. Layout Plans The main subject of this image is going to be a large centre piece of text in the same style as the Outrun Retro text I experimented with in the Problem Solving section of the FMP. I hope to use a similar colour scheme to the Outrun Retro style with the chrome and the pinky-purple. I am unsure as to what I will have written with the text yet however it will be linked closely to the vaporwave genre. This page is going to be quite a simple page in terms of what is going on. Its going to have a black background and is going to feature a bright grid with the classic vaporwave sun and the centre text piece. This sun with the slits in it is very common in vaporwave artwork. It features a circle with a 2 colour transitioning gradient normally going from top to bottom. It then has slits along the bottom of the circle. I am unsure as to what colour ii am going to have the sun yet however it will be a colour that’s fits with the vaporwave theme The grid I am going to have in this image is going to be very similar to what is seen in the 1982 Tron. This is very fitting in the vaporwave genre as it pulls a lot of inspiration from the style and culture on the 80’s and 90’s. I am not sure what colour I am going to make the grid however it will most likely be either a neon purple, pink or blue as these are common neon colours used in vaporwave artwork.
  • 24. Planning Summary I feel overall my planning is at a very high level and I am very happy with the complete document. I feel I have covered many aspects with the planning such as colour schemes, location planning and layout plans. I feel one of the strongest aspects of my planning is the layout plans I created. By making multiple layout plans in detail it will make production a lot easier as I will already have a good idea about what I need to include and where I need to put it. Another strong aspect of my planning is the research I did for the multiple locations I may be using when taking the photos for my fanzine. By looking into each location in detail I can decide which locations will be better for my project if I cant go to all of them. The final area of my planning which I feel is strong is the analysis I did into the colour schemes and fonts. By looking at a range of different fonts I could use as well as the colour schemes that will work best with my projects I was able to create a good plan that if I stick to will lead to a fanzine that fits the vaporwave genre. Weaknesses for my planning however are the time management planning and camera planning. I feel my time management section could have been in a lot more detail. By having it in more detail it will allow me to plan my time better and there will be less chance of me running out of time for any of my production. The final weakness of my planning that I feel is worth notice is my camera prep. I feel like I could have done more experiments of different settings which would allow me to have a better understanding of the camera when it comes to production.
