an artist was trying to say
through his/her artwork?
-Appreciating art involves different
elements that work together to
understand the messages that the
artist is trying to portray.

3. People's perspectives regarding
the meaning of an artwork and
whether it has aesthetic appeal
to them will vary. This will
depend on their societal
background, education, and
personality.

4. Classifications of Art:
*REPRESENTATIONAL- takes its subject
from reality, from what is familiar.
*NON REPRESENTATIONAL- does not take
from reality, made often for aesthetic
purposes
*ABSTRACT- takes from subjects from
reality but presents them in abstract
ways.

5. Sources of Subjects
•Nature and Landscapes
•Animals
•Human figure (portraits)
•History and Legends
•Religion and Mythology
•Dreams and Fantasies

6. Content in Art
Content refers to the things in the artwork that
serves as clues to unlocking the meaning.
Three levels of meaning: (Caslib et all,2018)
*Factual
*Conventional
*Subjective
