disciplinary Interest Groups
           PGCE/Cert Ed
     Post-Compulsory Education
     University of Bedfordshire
         12 November 2011
Briefing
The Interest Group task follows on from Frank Coffield’s lecture this
   morning, and contributes to the work for Unit 7 Policy, Settings and
   Practice, in particular outcomes 1 and 2;
7.1: Understand the concept of professionalism and core professional values
   for teachers in the lifelong learning sector
7.2: Understand key issues in relation to professional conduct and
   accountability in the lifelong learning sector
So, working from the perspective of your group’s discipline or setting:
1. Discuss to what extent you agree with Prof. Coffield’s analysis.
2. He concluded with a call to action; undertake a SWOT analysis (see below)
   of your area of practice in relation to its environment, to evaluate its
   potential for change.
3. Write up the SWOT analysis on a flip-chart, and use it to compare notes
   with your paired group as programmed.
4. At the end of the day deposit the chart in the Campus Centre (together
   with your evaluation sheets). The charts will be photographed and
   uploaded to BREO so that they may be consulted and used as a resource
   for Unit 7.
