 In this work I’m going to talk about ‘’The Great
Migration’’. The characteristics and the causes
of this important historical event. Also we can
appreciate the importance of Chicago during
    the both Great Migration.
 1. Research and know what the Great
    Migration is.
 2. Identify the causes of this massive migration.
 3. The importance of Chicago to this great fact
    for cultural, social and political.
 The Great Migration was the movement of
more than 6 million African Americans from
the south to the urban north of United States,
    from 1910 to 1930.
 Also occur a Second Great Migration (1940 to
1970), in which 5 million or more people
moved to California, they come with the same
purposes, searching for new jobs and a better
    quality of life.
 During the Great Migration, African Americans
began to build a new place for themselves in
    public life, actively confronting economic,
political and social challenges and creating a
new black urban culture that would exert
enormous influence in the decades to come.
 The african people were searching for Better
    employment opportunities of industrial
    manufacturing. Many blacks headed north,
where they took advantage of the need for
industrial workers that first arose during the
    First World War.
 African Americans moved as individuals or
small family groups. There was no government
assistance, but often northern industries, such
the meatpacking and the railroads, one
important event was the expansion of the
    Pennsylvania Railroad.
 Chicago attracted slightly more than 500,000 of
the approximately 6 million African Americans
who left the South during these decades.
    Chicago, offered freedom from legally
    sanctioned racial discrimination.
 Before the second migration, African
Americans constituted 2 percent of Chicago's
population. After the second migration by
1970, they were 33 percent. This because all the
people find an a stability in economical, social
    and cultural ambits.
 This city open new doors to the black people,
giving they freedom to create their own
Political movements, their own religion, their
own language, and one of the most featured
things was the opening of the Negro League
    Baseball.
 The Great Migration let to United States a
variety of religions, one of the most important
    are:
 - Black church. - Black theology.
 - Nation of Islam. - Doctrine of Father Divine.
 As the time pass each religion began to
dissapear, not all the religions , but the most
yes, actually they let diasporas around the
world, like in Liberia ,Nova Scotia ,France and
    Sierra Leone.
 The Great Migration had a quantity of
governments, the most featured were the
    Nationalist Black Power ,Capitalism,
    Conservatism , Populism , Leftism.
 We learned the characteristics and causes of the
Great Migration. We could see that momentum
reasons black people to move north, we saw
that Chicago was the birthplace of the great
migration along with other U.S. cities. We
