Hello:
Jeff Venture served as the General Manager for the Embarcadero in Newport, Oregon from August 2013
through March 2015. He managed the hotel, housekeeping, front desk, gift shop and restaurant. Jeff
had responsibility for budget development, achieving financial targets, inventory management, quality
control, employee management and board relations, Jeff reported directly to the board of directors.
During his employment Jeff met or exceeded most targets set by the board.
When Jeff was hired the Embarcadero's hotel/restaurant operation had been outsourced to a variety of
third party vendors for many years. During this time the quality of the hotel/restaurant had declined.
As a result the board determined to manage the operation in-house under the UOA umbrella. Jeff was
charged with bringing the quality and reputation of the hotel/restaurant up to an acceptable standard.
This was a significant challenge.
Jeff reviewed and reworked all policies associated with the hotel/restaurant. He examined
departments associated with the operation to insure that quality standards were being observed. He
rewrote operating budgets for the hotel/restaurant so that that revenues, expenses and profits were
clear and understandable for the board. Jeff reviewed employee standards and reworked the employee
handbook.
During the first six months of Jeff's tenure the board approved a significant and needed remodel of the
restaurant including air conditioning and kitchen equipment. Jeff assisted in the remodel effort. The
remodel helped to improve the restaurant's reputation with the local community. Additionally, Jeff
developed the overall restaurant concept including the menu, staffing levels and live entertainment. As
a result restaurant revenues were substantially improved over previous years.
Jeff is a hard worker. He is energetic and creative - willing to try new approaches to solve problems. He
is very bright and able to grasp new concepts. I served as board liaison to the restaurant/hotel
operation. Jeff reported directly to me. He was a good and reliable communicator. He was willing to
take direction. He is goal orientated and would rework plans as needed to achieve targets. I enjoyed
working with Jeff and am happy to recommend him.
