On behalf of Chernomonaftogaz, GL Noble Denton Project Manager, Mr Ognian Todorov (right), presented the safety bonus
cheque of US$10,000 to Keppel FELS Project Manager Mr Loe Hauw Sheong
Keppel Offshore & Marine
continues to maintain high safety
standards at its yards and received
safety bonuses from
long-term customers.
For achieving 2.5 million safe
man-hours on the construction of
the B319 project, the KFELS B Class
jackup rig for Chernomonaftogaz,
Keppel FELS was awarded
a bonus of US$10,000 on 10 April
2012.
Keppel Shipyard was also presented
with a safety bonus of US$15,000
on 23 April 2012 by Bumi Armada
Berhad for achieving one million
safe man-hours on the FPSO
Armada Sterling.
In addition, Keppel Group has
contributed $100,000 to the annual
National Workplace Safety and
Health Campaign 2012.
This year’s campaign kicked off
on 26 April 2012 and reminds
stakeholders to ‘Stop the
Assumptions. Stop Work Accidents.’
The message highlights the dangers
of making assumptions, which
could lead to work accidents.

make it more reader-friendly by
using more graphics. Just as our
safety journey is continuous, we
strive to improve our publication
along the way and look forward to
your suggestions.
At Keppel, we believe in walking
the safety talk. Therefore, as the
Group Safety Coordinator , I see
the need to walk the ground
to understand the issues our
colleagues face on a daily basis.
Having taken over since February,
I have visited various worksites in
Singapore as well as overseas and
look forward to more of such visits
over the next few months. In doing
so, I can better appreciate what
we have in place from a Safety
Management perspective and
discuss with the InterSBU Safety
Committee on how we can better
improve on certain measures or

for the first half of 2012, we must
maintain the impetus to ensure
that we continue as we have
started. We can make further
enhancements to our endeavours
by fully implementing our
individual business unit roadmaps
for the remainder of 2012.

The Annual Safety Competition
at Keppel Logistics (Foshan) was
held on 26 May 2012 for the third
year running. Besides rewarding
and recognising employees for
Fun safety programme
their efforts in building safety
knowledge, it is also an interactive
way of promoting safety skills and
practices.
Dangerous chemicals leaked and
spilled over a large area at the
Senoko Waste-to-Energy plant
on 21 May 2012. Within minutes,
members of the Company
Emergency Response Team (CERT)
suited up in their chemical suits and
arrived at the incident location to
contain and clean up the spill safely
and efficiently.
This was the scene at the
Keppel Integrated Engineering
(KIE) chemical spillage drill which
was organised to ensure that
employees are able to respond
quickly to such situations when
they happen.
Chemical tankers visit the plant
regularly to top up chemicals like
sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric
acid used in the plant’s operations.
While there are safety measures
in place to minimise the chances
of spillage, such incidents can still
happen if valves are not properly

closed during the hose connection
and disconnection process.
These chemicals pose very real
hazards if they are leaked or
spilled. Highly corrosive, these
chemicals can cause severe burns.
In a real emergency, any casualty
will need to be attended to
immediately, and brought to the
emergency eyewash and shower
area for decontamination.
The drill involved about 25 people
from the KIE management and
CERT teams.
The Company Emergency Response Team at Keppel Integrated Engineering moved swiftly to
contain the chemical spill
Employees from all levels shared
and exchanged ideas on how
they overcame challenges and the
innovative solutions that were
implemented to improve workplace
safety. They also demonstrated
their knowledge in the multiple
choice questions segment and
tested their wits through the quick-
response round of questions.
Participants went away with
heightened awareness of safety
skills and practices, all done in the
name of good fun and friendly

Electrical safety and fire safety are
two out of six High Impact Risk
Activities (HIRA) that Keppel Group
has identified as important across
all the business units.
A set of icons created to spread
awareness on these activities have

been put on posters and displayed
prominently at the workplaces
to remind all workers to be extra
vigilant.
Across the Group, business units
have put in place added procedures
and initiatives to emphasise the
importance of fire safety and
electrical safety to employees
and workers.

FIRE SAFETY
Equipped with a portable fire extinguisher, a fire watchman was
deployed at hot work location to ensure the work area is free of
flammable material at Keppel Offshore & Marine

As a responsible property developer,
Keppel Land seeks to instill a safe
and healthy work environment at
all its project sites in Singapore
and overseas.
To upkeep its efforts, John Birchall,
Keppel Land’s Director of Safety
and Health, visited the project sites
at the Tanah Sutera Development
in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, on
28 March 2012. This was a follow-up
visit from an earlier trip made in
September 2011 to find out the
progress of the enhanced safety
management of the worksites.
Demonstrating its commitment
to improve the safety standards
of its Malaysian partners and the
worksites’ condition, Keppel Land’s
Management Safety Committee
also visited these sites on 25 May
2012. They had a fruitful exchange
of views and suggestions on how to
improve safety management.
Meaningful exchanges
Regular exchanges between Keppel Land and its contractors ensure that measures are in place to
provide workers a safe workplace
To help employees keep a healthy
lifestyle, several disease prevention
and health promotion activities
were held across the Group in
May 2012.
Employees at Keppel Shipyard
learnt how to keep colorectal
cancer at bay through a talk by
Dr Ho Kok Sun, Consultant Surgeon
at Novena Colorectal Centre. The
employees also participated in a
free health screening. They checked
their blood pressure levels, blood
sugar levels, visceral fat levels as
well as Body Mass Indexes to get
Living well
a snapshot of their physical health
condition.
Also, employees of Keppel
Corporation and Keppel FMO went
through an eye screening session
for glaucoma, a multi-factorial,
complex eye disease.
A range of wellness initiatives help Keppelites keep diseases at bay

Keppelites joined millions around
the world to support the world’s
biggest environment event, Earth
Hour on 31 March 2012 from
8.30pm to 9.30pm.
In Singapore, more than 100
green ambassadors across the
Keppel Group were part of the
1,500 supporters who took part in
Beyond Earth Hour
the first-ever Earth Hour human
formation, in the shape of ‘60+
SINGAPORE’ at the heart of
Orchard Road.
At Keppel Offshore & Marine, all
seven yards in Singapore, as well as
its two shipyards in the Philippines
switched off non-essential lightings
for one hour. Foreign workers
also participated in promotional
activities for Earth Hour at their
accommodation lodges.
Meanwhile, non-essential lights
such as façade flood lights and
lightings at car parks, were
turned off across Keppel Land’s
34 commercial and residential
properties as well as hotel
developments in Asia.

Recognising excellence Issue 2 2012 HSEMATTERSA Keppel Group Health, Safety & Environment publication MICA (P) 201/09/2011 On behalf of Chernomonaftogaz, GL Noble Denton Project Manager, Mr Ognian Todorov (right), presented the safety bonus cheque of US$10,000 to Keppel FELS Project Manager Mr Loe Hauw Sheong Keppel Offshore & Marine continues to maintain high safety standards at its yards and received safety bonuses from long-term customers. For achieving 2.5 million safe man-hours on the construction of the B319 project, the KFELS B Class jackup rig for Chernomonaftogaz, Keppel FELS was awarded a bonus of US$10,000 on 10 April 2012. Keppel Shipyard was also presented with a safety bonus of US$15,000 on 23 April 2012 by Bumi Armada Berhad for achieving one million safe man-hours on the FPSO Armada Sterling. In addition, Keppel Group has contributed $100,000 to the annual National Workplace Safety and Health Campaign 2012. This year’s campaign kicked off on 26 April 2012 and reminds stakeholders to ‘Stop the Assumptions. Stop Work Accidents.’ The message highlights the dangers of making assumptions, which could lead to work accidents.

Following feedback from our readers, we have reviewed the presentation of our newsletter to make it more reader-friendly by using more graphics. Just as our safety journey is continuous, we strive to improve our publication along the way and look forward to your suggestions. At Keppel, we believe in walking the safety talk. Therefore, as the Group Safety Coordinator , I see the need to walk the ground to understand the issues our colleagues face on a daily basis. Having taken over since February, I have visited various worksites in Singapore as well as overseas and look forward to more of such visits over the next few months. We can make further enhancements to our endeavours by fully implementing our individual business unit roadmaps for the remainder of 2012.   • 3. 3HSEMATTERS Issue 2 2012 The Annual Safety Competition at Keppel Logistics (Foshan) was held on 26 May 2012 for the third year running. Besides rewarding and recognising employees for Fun safety programme their efforts in building safety knowledge, it is also an interactive way of promoting safety skills and practices. Dangerous chemicals leaked and spilled over a large area at the Senoko Waste-to-Energy plant on 21 May 2012. Within minutes, members of the Company Emergency Response Team (CERT) suited up in their chemical suits and arrived at the incident location to contain and clean up the spill safely and efficiently. This was the scene at the Keppel Integrated Engineering (KIE) chemical spillage drill which was organised to ensure that employees are able to respond quickly to such situations when they happen. Chemical tankers visit the plant regularly to top up chemicals like sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid used in the plant’s operations. While there are safety measures in place to minimise the chances of spillage, such incidents can still happen if valves are not properly Spill drill closed during the hose connection and disconnection process. These chemicals pose very real hazards if they are leaked or spilled. Highly corrosive, these chemicals can cause severe burns. In a real emergency, any casualty will need to be attended to immediately, and brought to the emergency eyewash and shower area for decontamination. The drill involved about 25 people from the KIE management and CERT teams. The Company Emergency Response Team at Keppel Integrated Engineering moved swiftly to contain the chemical spill Employees from all levels shared and exchanged ideas on how they overcame challenges and the innovative solutions that were implemented to improve workplace safety. They also demonstrated their knowledge in the multiple choice questions segment and tested their wits through the quick- response round of questions.   • 4. HSEMATTERS Issue 2 20124 Electrical safety and fire safety are two out of six High Impact Risk Activities (HIRA) that Keppel Group has identified as important across all the business units. A set of icons created to spread awareness on these activities have Timely reminders been put on posters and displayed prominently at the workplaces to remind all workers to be extra vigilant. Across the Group, business units have put in place added procedures and initiatives to emphasise the importance of fire safety and electrical safety to employees and workers.   • 6. HSEMATTERS Issue 2 20126 As a responsible property developer, Keppel Land seeks to instill a safe and healthy work environment at all its project sites in Singapore and overseas. To upkeep its efforts, John Birchall, Keppel Land’s Director of Safety and Health, visited the project sites at the Tanah Sutera Development in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, on 28 March 2012. This was a follow-up visit from an earlier trip made in September 2011 to find out the progress of the enhanced safety management of the worksites. Demonstrating its commitment to improve the safety standards of its Malaysian partners and the worksites’ condition, Keppel Land’s Management Safety Committee also visited these sites on 25 May 2012. They had a fruitful exchange of views and suggestions on how to improve safety management. Meaningful exchanges Regular exchanges between Keppel Land and its contractors ensure that measures are in place to provide workers a safe workplace To help employees keep a healthy lifestyle, several disease prevention and health promotion activities were held across the Group in May 2012. Employees at Keppel Shipyard learnt how to keep colorectal cancer at bay through a talk by Dr Ho Kok Sun, Consultant Surgeon at Novena Colorectal Centre. The employees also participated in a free health screening. They checked their blood pressure levels, blood sugar levels, visceral fat levels as well as Body Mass Indexes to get Living well a snapshot of their physical health condition. Also, employees of Keppel Corporation and Keppel FMO went through an eye screening session for glaucoma, a multi-factorial, complex eye disease.   • 7. 7HSEMATTERS Issue 2 2012 Keppelites joined millions around the world to support the world’s biggest environment event, Earth Hour on 31 March 2012 from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. In Singapore, more than 100 green ambassadors across the Keppel Group were part of the 1,500 supporters who took part in Beyond Earth Hour the first-ever Earth Hour human formation, in the shape of ‘60+ SINGAPORE’ at the heart of Orchard Road. At Keppel Offshore & Marine, all seven yards in Singapore, as well as its two shipyards in the Philippines switched off non-essential lightings for one hour. Foreign workers also participated in promotional activities for Earth Hour at their accommodation lodges. Meanwhile, non-essential lights such as façade flood lights and lightings at car parks, were turned off across Keppel Land’s 34 commercial and residential properties as well as hotel developments in Asia.
