ISO (the International Organization for
Standardization) is a worldwide federation of
National standards bodies (ISO member bodies).
The work of preparing International Standards is
normally carried out through ISO technical
committees.
International organizations, governmental and
non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take
part in the work.
ISO collaborates closely with the International
Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of
electrotechnical standardization.

4. Introduction to ISO-14001
Title: Environmental management systems- (EMS) Requirements and guidance for use.
Introduced in 1996, revised in 2004 then 2015.
The ISO 14001 belongs to the ISO 14000 family of standards provides practical tools for companies and
organizations of all kinds looking to manage their environmental responsibilities.
ISO 14001:2015 and its supporting standards focus on environmental systems to achieve this.
It is a set of specifications which sets a framework for an organisation to manage its environmental issues.
The committee responsible for this document is Technical Committee ISO/TC 207, Environmental
management, Subcommittee SC 1, Environmental management systems.
There are more than 300,000 certifications to ISO 14001 in 171 countries around the world.
The revised version is used in 155 countries.
