West Valley Medical Center is a 150 licensed bed facility serving Caldwell, Id, Canyon County and surrounding rural areas.
DIRECTOR INPATIENT SERVICES: ICU, PCU, OSU, M/S, PEDS, FLOAT POOL, MONITOR TECHS, HOUSE
SUPERVISORS
 In-Patient Director, with administrative accountability for the coordination and direction of all clinical,
financial and operational functions for multiple clinical departments, and the House Supervisors. This includes
all RN’s and CNA’s for ICU, PCU, OSU, M/S, PEDS, Float Pool, House Supervisors and Cardiac Monitor
Technicians.
 Oversee in-patient services. Manage up to 160 employees. Full Accountability for maintaining regulatory
compliance, annual budget, and operating expenses
 Customer Service and Employee Engagement. Successful increase of Press Ganey ranking scores increase for
Ortho/Spine Unit of 1st
%tile rank in Dec. to 95%tile rank for March, April, and May. Gained 87.8% participation
of RN’s and CNA’s for 2016 Employee Engagement Survey.
 Created and implemented standard handoff tool for bedside reporting and twice a day daily huddles.
The newly created handoff tool based on evidence based-practice decreased end of shift OT by 52%. Promoted
Bedside Reports that engaged patients and families while creating a safe, seamless, thorough handoff.
Throughput gains include decreasing times of order to admit to time in in-patient bed to average of 47 minutes;
initial average was 68 minutes. Developed Professional Nursing Bonus Program which was designed to
reward, recognize, and retain RN’s who participate in activities that improve patient experiences, expand

 Clinical Director: Tacoma General Emergency Department (2010-Present): Promoted to Clinical Director
with administrative accountability for the coordination and direction of all clinical, financial and
operational functions for the Emergency Department, The House Supervisors and The Operations & Logistics
Center. This includes Resource Nurses, Float Pool for CNA’s, CORA’s and COSI’s, Centralized Cardiac Monitor

to 112 FTE’sand 230 employees. Full Accountability for annual budget consisting of $123 million in patient
revenue and $16 million in operating expenses.
 Design, facilitate and administrate the delivery of excellent care and service to all customers including
patients, staff, physicians, family members and community representatives. Oversee the interpretation and
development of patient care standards, provisions of quality health services, resource allocation and fiscal
management.
 Define and monitor all standards of nursing practice. Ensure the availability and appropriate utilization of
essential human and material resources.
 Support collaboration within Patient Services and additional disciplines with success improving Press
Ganey customer service scores from 3rd
percentile to 60th
percentile as result of creating service bundles
including AIDET, the utilization of treatment room whiteboards, patient rounding and bedside report.
 Assistant Nurse Manager: Tacoma General Emergency Department (2007-2010): Coordinated and
supervised patient care personnel activities with success addressing and exceeding all patient care
requirements in accordance with physician instructions, organizational policies and approved patient care
standards.
 Supported the Nurse Manager in establishing and implementing operational plans that aligned with
department objectives. Assisted with budget development. Facilitated quality patient care. Participated in the
design and management of efficient operations; collected data, monitored patterns and trends within
performance. Implemented staff development plans. Provided in-services and offered direction and guidance.
Performance Highlights:
 Accomplished positive variance of $6 million profit margin and was below expenses by $95K for 2012 as
a direct result of designing and executing successful process improvements following extensive research of Best
Practice.
 This was also achieved by utilizing the Lean 4-Step Problem Solving Methodology with areas of focus
including overall Length of Stay (LOS), Discharge LOS, Admit LOS, staff reductions and focused monitoring of
supplies.

 Implemented Daily Huddles, Bedside Report, and Standardized Handoff tool based on evidence – based
practice. Coaching managers on the practice of validating practice in order to achieve the hardwiring of
practice.
 Coaching and Developing Nurse Managers, introducing Leader Standard Work, Leader Rounding, and
Expectation Coaching. With Press Ganey results of 87% of our patients stating a Nurse Leader visited me.
 Strategic Deployment: Financial Sustainability & Throughput (2013-2015): Appointed as Thought
Leader for a collaborative 12 member team of staff utilizing lean tools of problem solving process
improvements. Team included physicians, case management, nursing leaders, finance, pharmacy, imaging, lab
and environmental services.
Directed overall motivation to reduce In-Patient and ED length of stay (patient days) and
supply expenses; a cost saving measure goal of $7.5 million.
Decreased “Ready to Admit” from 365 minutes to 135 minutes and “Admitted LOS” from 540
minutes to 345 minutes.
 Hospital Member RN Contract Negotiating Team with Washington State Nurses Association:
Dedicated member of team assisting in the ratification of two RN contracts for 2010 and 2013.
 Care Transformation Team: Assisted in establishing a safer environment for patients as dedicated
member of a multidisciplinary team concentrating on transforming overall care at Tacoma General Hospital.
 Reduced In-patient transfers, effectively decreasing number of nurse to nurse handoffs by implementing
and sustaining the utilization of Acuity Adaptable beds.
 Implemented and sustained Bed Side Report within the ED and In-Patient units.
 Construction Planning Team for the Emergency Department (2007-2010): Member of team
successful in transferring an 18 bed emergency department to a newly constructed 45 bed emergency
department;
 Responsibility included design of treatment spaces: universal rooms, trauma rooms, nurse/physician
stations, triage and waiting area. Also assisted in development of process improvements and education
for staff.
 Team Member: Circles of Care; Transforming the Multicare Model of Care: Effectively assisted with the
strategic planning of healthcare management from birth to geriatric and illness to wellness;
Participated with the implementation of “Seven Best Practice” for Emergency Department
with success positioning focused outreach on high utilizers of emergency services; successful in
reducing lower acuity patient population in Emergency Department by 14%.
 Team Leader of Emergency Services regarding acquisition of Auburn Regional Medical Center:
Transitioning Planning: Analyze and identify safety risks and gaps and/or differences in approaches towards
patient care at Auburn Regional Medical Center prior to the purchase close date. Informed steering committee
and MHS leaders through the development of functional and support plans.
 Chair: Nurse Staffing Committee: focusing on the protection of patients, the support of greater retention of
