  11. 11. How do you create a strong team?
  12. 12. Make sure the team is set and ready to go By structuring the department to its optimum
  13. 13. Set clear expectations They all need to be on the same page, and understand the goals
  14. 14. Make sure… You can do, what you expect them to do
  15. 15. Start off with a fresh approach • Create a new team atmosphere • Get rid of old thinking and bad habits • Make the old staff see the new light
  16. 16. A positive attitude… Can rescue a dying department, almost overnight
  17. 17. Create a mission statement That truly has meaning, not just a poster on the wall
  18. 18. Walk around your department • Take the time to sit down with your employees in their environment • Have small impromptu meetings
  19. 19. During your walk around the department… • Have a notepad and pen with you to take notes • Be sure to follow up ASAP
  20. 20. Hold team meetings, and… • Discuss stats • Training needs • Suggestions • Compliments • New projects • Important events

  22. 22. Inspire teamwork By always keeping them in the loop
  23. 23. Make sure everyone is fully trained, and has what they need to do the job efficiently
  24. 24. Teach them to work as a team There must be support amongst the team members, with respect for one another
  25. 25. Show how the goals of the team Tie into the organizational goals Company success depends on their performance
  26. 26. They should act and feel, Like they are ambassadors for the company
  27. 27. Make their opinions count • Always follow up • Sometimes let the team decide • Get the quiet people to speak up
  28. 28. Strong Teams… Do not need to be micromanaged
  29. 29. How do you motivate the team?
  30. 30. It starts with you • Be positive • Honest • Encouraging • Direct
  31. 31. Motivate Professionally Have respect for your staff, and don’t patronize with silly gimmicks
  32. 32. Share your vision and mission with confidence, it will be contagious
  33. 33. Approach for motivating a team: One for all, and all for one
  34. 34. Approach for motivating an individual: One-on-one
  35. 35. They should see you as, • A leader who encourages others • A manager who is motivated • A person with a great attitude
  36. 36. How do you manage the many different personalities?

Be a solid manager & leader • Give clear instructions • Know what makes them tick • Try to adapt to their personality • Understand all of the personality traits • Show your appreciation • Help them grow • Build their confidence • Show you truly care • Focus on their strengths • And try to work around their weaknesses

  41. 41. Don’t hesitate to praise, when praise is truly due
  42. 42. Send a complimentary e-mail, cc your boss
  43. 43. Share the teams success with upper management Have upper management thank the team!
  44. 44. How do you evaluate and reward employee performance?
  45. 45. Give constructive feedback
  46. 46. Evaluate the known goals, values, and expectations
  47. 47. Appraise the core objectives and corporate values
  48. 48. Focus on the significance of each success and failure
  49. 49. Make sure the employee leaves the evaluation, knowing what is expected in the future
  50. 50. …and let’s face it, it’s mostly about the money So try to pay them what they are worth!
  51. 51. You can also award by, • Promotion • Bonus for hitting the goals • Give cash awards • Paid time off • Award banquet • Small, but meaningful gifts
  52. 52. Don’t make rewarding predictable, and don’t reward if the goal was not achieved, however…
