Taking care of your teeth and gums doesn’t take much time or require costly tools. At a
fundamental level, brushing regularly, flossing and avoiding simple sugars can go a long way
towards maintaining oral hygiene.
DO YOU NEED A CHECK-UP?
Patients often assume that they only need to see a dentist when there is a problem, but some
people may need check-ups more frequently than others. Seeing a dentist allows patients
to see if any dental issues need to be addressed. Delaying or avoiding treatment can make a
problem more difficult to treat later, so it’s better to deal with any issues as early as possible.
After seeing a dentist, they will recommend when to come back for another check-up. The time
between check-ups can be as short as a couple of months or as long as two years. If you’re gene-
rally at a lower risk of experiencing dental issues, the time between check-ups will be longer.
It’s important to note that dental
check-ups don’t take the place
of other appointments for dental
treatments such as extraction or
fillings, which are scheduled for
separately.
