The overall number of open properties is larger than closed
properties from 2013 through 2016. However, the ratio of closed
properties to open properties has increased in later years. In
2013 and 2014, 10% of properties were closed. This number has
increased to 35.5% of properties in 2015 and 2016.
Below are some common characteristics found amongst closed
properties. The majority of closures are for apartments, most likely
because people are testing if they can rent apartments on a short
term basis. Additionally, the majority of closures occurred in Paris and
Chamonix.

61% of closures are for apartments.
Furthermore, apartments had a 42% lower

The cancellation rate is higher for non-seasonal destinations
versus seasonal destinations. The higher cancellation rate in non-
seasonal destinations can be partly attributed due to the larger
amount of rooms available in non-seasonal destinations.

((closed date โ opening date) / 30) except bed and breakfasts (B&B)
in coastal areas. Coastal B&Bs across both countries were the only
properties to experience shorter durations in 2017, which attributed
to their declining average growth rate of -10.82%.
