The arrival of spring in Muskoka is
a mixed blessing. All winter we’ve
dressed to keep warm; now we get to
dress to keep from being bitten.
“Bugs are a bitter reality in central
Ontario,” says Jordan Lavin, of
mosquito.buzz, a highly-specialized
pest control company. “Our business
is focused on the control and
prevention of mosquitoes, blackflies
and ticks in cottage country. Summer
is too short to be chased inside”
The company uses several methods
to eliminate
biting insects
from backyards, cottage properties,
and commercial locations. The first
step is to manage standing water
and apply larvacide to mosquito
breeding locations. The rest of the
season’s control comes in the form
of regular visits to the property to
apply mosquito control products
with backpack foggers. The spray is
applied to vegetation, structures, the
underside of decks and shaded areas
where mosquitoes lurk.
“Our application team members
have a specialized Ontario license to
control mosquitoes,” says Jordan, “a
highly specialized division of the pest
control industry.”
A contractor building a home in the
woods, a Realtor selling a cottage,
or someone planning an outdoor
party may need a short-term fix,
says Jordan. Other clients – golf
courses, camps, resorts and outdoor
restaurants, as well as cottage
owners – usually want control all
season. A typical customer will see
the team 5 times per season for a full
year of control.
“Our goal is to help people stay
outside this summer,” says Jordan.
