Newton Recreation Centre Address: Newton, Surrey Service Sector: Public Sector - Based on the readings, a community centre offers “fitness, sport, age-related programs, events, arts, leaderships, etc.” (Lunn, 2021, p. 3). This recreation centre fits that description as it offers those types of services. SPSC 2210 Connection: Recreation - This is a recreation example because it provides and strongly reinforces the idea of individuals to “establish and maintain a healthy lifestyle” (Lunn, 2021, p. 3). The facility accomplishes this goal due to the many activities, programs, etc… that they offer to the community. Furthermore, this place tries their best to provide their services to those who are “disadvantaged” (Lunn, 2021, p. 3).

Guildford Recreation Centre Address: Guildford, Surrey Service Sector: Public Sector - This facility is a public sector because it provides the public “fitness, sport, age-related programs, events, arts, leaderships, etc.” (Lunn, 2021, p. 3). Helping individuals “establish and maintain a healthy lifestyle” (Lunn, 2021, p. 3). SPSC 2210 Connection: Recreation - This is an example of recreation because this facility enforces and provides opportunities for people to participate in group activities, exercising, weightlifting, dance, and many more. In accordance to the reading, “recreation services commensurate individual and collective interest and serve the need of the total community” (Lunn, 2021, p. 5), which is easily achieved within this facility.
  5. M.B. Sanford Elementary Address: Newton, Surrey Service Sector: Public Sector - It is a public sector because the elementary school is funded by the government. Making it available for many people who face financial difficulties. The school also offers many “fitness, sport, age-related programs, events, arts, leaderships, etc.” (Lunn, 2021, p. 3), which are necessary for the students experience, explore, and learn about. SPSC 2210 Connection: Recreation - This elementary school is connected with recreation, physical education, and coaching. The students have the opportunity to be enrolled in the school for free, which helps the disadvantaged families to provide their child/children to be in school (Lunn, 2021, p. 3). In these elementary schools, there are free physical education classes and introduces the students to new activities and sports. Lastly, when school is dismissed anyone from the public is allowed to spend their leisure time on the school grounds, playgrounds, grassfield, gravelfield, and outdoor basketball courts.

Club 16 Trevor Linden Fitness Address: Newton, Surrey Service Sector: Private Sector - Club 16 would be identified as a private sector because they are profit oriented with their membership costs and drop-in costs that serve the public for good purposes in order to retain control (Lunn, 2021, p. 6). Furthermore, their services are only for a “specific market group, who are the general public who can afford the service provided at [the] facility” (Lunn, 2021, p. 7). SPSC 2210 Connection: Recreation & Coaching - Club 16 is an example of recreation because their services are a “fundamental human need… that is essential to a person’s physical and social well-being” (Lunn, 2021, p. 5). Furthermore, they are connected to coaching because they offer specialized, high level of training (Lunn, 2021) through their personal training services

Praise Team Studio Address: Central City, Surrey Service Sector: Private Sector - The dance team is a private sector because there are fees to tryout for team, dance expenses, and there are drop-in fees for those who are just looking to participate in a dance class. Their marketing group is quite specific to individuals in the dance community or are interested in dance, who are able to afford to join the team and/or participate in dance workshops. SPSC 2210 Connection: Recreation & Coaching - Praise team is an example of recreation because the tryouts and drop-ins are open to anyone in the public. In addition, they occasionally try to make the dance workshops free to anyone to make it more accessible for disadvantaged clients (Lunn, 2021). This studio is also considered to be coaching because the dance coaches/leaders have the ability to offer high levels and high quality of coaching (Lunn, 2021). Their class difficulties ranges from beginner to masters class.

Pacific Academy Address: 10238 168 St, Surrey, BC V4N 1Z4 Service Sector: Private Sector - Pacific academy is a private sector because there is a cost for individuals to attend this school, being profit oriented (Lunn, 2021). This school is offered to “anyone who can afford the service” (Lunn, 2021, p. 7). SPSC 2210 Connection: Physical Education - This private school has a connection to physical education because within their school the students learn about physical education through the classes offered. To be enrolled in this school however, comes with a cost.
  10. Voluntary Sectors

Surrey Crime Prevention Address: 12484 82 Ave #15, Surrey, Service Sector: Voluntary Sector - Voluntary sectors are identified by many reasons, some reasons that apply to Surrey Crime Prevention is that the organization invests their leisure time towards the community, volunteers/participants are here to work towards their future (career), the organization exists to “seek an organizational culture” (Lunn, 2021, p. 10), and work towards the future safety of Surrey (Lunn, 2021). SPSC 2210 Connection: Recreation - The SPSC 2210 connection this organization has is recreation. Surrey crime prevention services is “good for society/community… and offers leadership [opportunities]” (Lunn, 2021, p. 8-9) for the many participants in this organization. Furthermore, the organization helps serve the “local communities, general public, and can expand to community centres, parks, schools, plazas, etc.” (Lunn, 2021, p. 9).

Tong Louie Family YMCA Address: 14988 57 Ave, Surrey Service Sector: Voluntary Sector - YMCA is voluntary because they “rely on the efforts of members and volunteers for sustained survival” (Lunn, 2021, p. 10). YMCA also has “close ties to local organizations… where many ‘workers’ are primarily volunteers” (Lunn 2021, p. 8). SPSC 2210 Connection: Recreation - YMCA has a variety of different services that includes “fitness, sport, age-related programs, events, arts, leadership, etc.” (Lunn, 2021, 9). These services usually have a low to no fee to partake in, making it affordable to many individuals in the community.

Baobab Inclusive Empowerment Society Address: Whalley, Surrey Service Sector: Voluntary Sector - Baobab is voluntary because they are organized, private, non-profit distributing, self-governing, and voluntary (Lunn, 2021, p. 8). Their services can also be expanded in community centres, parks, local community centres, etc. to reach out to new individuals. SPSC 2210 Connection: Physical Ed. & Recreation - The mission that Baobab has is to reach and help out individuals who have disabilities, disadvantages, and those who experience bullying, exclusion, etc. Some services they provide includes leadership opportunities, activity / sport inclusion, and promoting health and fitness education (Lunn, 2021).
