2. ISLAM
• The youngest among the world’s major
religions with more than 1.5 billion
adherents comprising almost one-fourth of
the entire world population.
• It is the second largest group and one of
the fasting growing religions in the
world.
• Majority of Muslims, the followers of
Islam, live in Asia and Africa.
• There are 49 countries in the world that
are Muslim-majority of comprise 50% of
the population.

4. • Islam began with the Arabian desert people in
7th Century C.E
• Pre-Islamic People worshipped variety of Gods
(Local or tribal Gods)
• There were Angels, fairies, demonic creatures
and evil spirits in Pre-Islamic religion
• The city of Mecca became a sacred shrine
(Hopfe 1983)
• Kaaba was built for the enclosure around the
stone.
• Black Stone is a tradition dates back to the
time of Adan and Eve. It is an important
object.

C.E
• His father was died before he was born while
his mother died before he was 6 years old
but his grandfather Abd al-Mutallib. (Renard

• He belonged to the clan of Hashin of Quraysh

• Around 610 C.E, he used to retreat to Mount
Hira in search of the truth about God and
heard the voice of God in a cave.
• He was 25 years old when he married with 40
years old woman Khadija.

“Muslim” is a person who submits
• In Arabic, the word Allah is a compound of Al (the
definite article) and ilah (God or deity). Joined
together, the words signify “GOD” (Renard 1993)
• In 613 C.E, Muhammad began to impart these sacred
messages to his closest relatives and friends.
8. • Muhammmad became a messenger and last
prophet
• In 622 C.E Muhammmad and his group moved
to Medina(Also known as Yathrib) to escape
persecution from Meccans. The flight of
Muhammad from Mecca to Medina is known as
hijra which marked the beginning of the
Islamic calendar.
• The Muslims who follow Muhammad in his
journey are known as Muhajirun while those
supported him in Medina are known as Ansar
(the helpers)

• After his arrival in Medina in 622 C.E
Muhammad united the Medinian tribes under
one constitution.
• Muhammad and his troops of around 10
thousand converts marched to Mecca and
took over the city almost unopposed.
( 630 C.E)
• In 632 C.E, Muhammad died at the age of 62
but his newly founded religion had spread
across entire Arabian Peninsula.
