The Office of Undergraduate Advising (OUA) Overview
The Office of Undergraduate Advising (OUA) in the College of Letters and Science provides
advising and counseling to approximately 19,000 undergraduates (new freshmen and transfer
admits, current students, and readmitted students) regarding academic programs, policies,
procedures, and College and University requirements. OUA consists of 30 career staff and 15
student staff that are organized into 4 units - Student Advising, Graduation/Evaluations, Analysis
and Advising IT (AIT). AIT supports deans, advising staff and students by creating web based
academic advising systems.
This is a 100% full-time, 2 year contract position with full benefits.

2. Responsibilities
This position will be a key member of the AIT team to create and extend existing student
advising systems. This will consist of working on projects of moderate scope based on business
practice and technical considerations.
• Analyze existing workflow or work to formulate logic for new systems.
• Devise logic procedures, prepare flow charting, perform coding, data analysis, and
test/debug programs through the application of professional programming
concepts.
• May be primarily responsible for maintaining a specific application.
• Must be able to provide support by demonstrating knowledge of JavaScript, web
applications, and web programming language.
Professional Development
• Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at training
sessions and L&S committees as appropriate.
Required Qualifications
• Strong hands-on knowledge of browser-side technology such as HTML, Javascript,
CSS, HTTP, cookies, and security.
• Leveraged MySQL, MongoDB and other technologies (of SQL and NoSQL varieties) to
store and manage data.
• Established experience in efficient coding techniques and project organization
• Demonstrable experience using online tools for organizing, managing and
documenting the UX design and QA testing processes.
• Proven interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical
personnel at various levels in the organization.
• Experience in Node.js, MongoDB and Meteor framework preferred
Education/Training:
• Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
