3. 1836 – INVENTION OF THE TELEGRAPH
 The telegraph allowed
people to communicate
quickly over long
distances.
 Prior to the telegraph
people had to rely on
letter which might take
weeks or even months
to get from on place to
another.

5. 1876 - INVENTION OF THE TELEPHONE
 Alexander Graham Bell
introduced the first
telephone.
 It required an operator
to connect the lines.

6. 1969 – THE INTERNET BEGINS
 The Internet began as Advanced Research Projects
Agency Network (ARPANET)
 The development was funded by the U.S.
Department of Defense.

7. 1971 – THE FIRST EMAIL IS SENT
 The first email was
sent by Ray Tomlinson
from one computer to
the other.
 Tomlinson was the first
to use the @ symbol.

8. 1983 - DESKTOP COMPUTERS

11. 1991 – WWW-DOT WEB ADDRESSES
 What does www stand for?
 World Wide Web
 With the launch of www-dot web
addresses, browsing and posting to the Internet
became standardized.
 Developers embraced open-source code that could
be shared to create a greater web of information.

14. 1998 - GOOGLE
 Many search engines
came before
Google, but they
entered the Internet
with a great product.
 From the
beginning, Google has
provided quick and
relevant search results.

much more than
search by key term. It
allows you to easily
search imagines, news
and shopping.
 Google as has
developed several
web-based applications
– from Google Docs to
Web developer tools.

16. 2004 - FACEBOOK
 Facebook was started
as a school project in
2004.
 The site was designed
as a directory for
college students.
 Today more than 750
million people are on
Facebook. That’s more
than twice the
population of the U.S.

 YouTube was launched
in 2005 as a site to
share videos.
 Users share video
tutorials, music
videos, funny
videos, and more.

 Apply introduced the
iPhone in 2007.

iPhone, Blackberry was
the primary data
phone. It was mostly
used by business
people.
 iPhone has expanded
the use of the Internet
to anytime, anywhere.
