weaknesses of the organization

Significance: At QualCare, there were
several practices, policies, and
procedures in place that reduced
efficiency in the workplace.
• The MEWA Department of QualCare
is in charge of administering health
plans to employers of two or more
employees and have a very large
client base.
• Inefficiencies within the department
can slow down and deter business
and thus need to be addressed.
 A special thank you to Stephanie
Alfonso
Method/Approach: One manager,
three directors, and two staff
members from different parts of the
MEWA Department were
interviewed.
• Open ended questions revolved
around relevant inefficiencies
observed.
• A SWOT analysis was then
performed using the information
gathered.
• Suggestions for improvement
were offered if applicable to the
situation .
This performance analysis during QualCare’s
merger with Cigna provides an
understanding of the inefficiencies and to a
suggest a plan for the organization's
continued improvement.
Specific areas that need focus from the
SWOT analysis conducted :
• Errors on tax forms provided by a
third party vendor
• Little updating of old policies and to
avoid confusion in current workflow
requirements
• QualCare’s cloud system JET, which
is used to store client information,
should not rely on the manual input
of an employee as this is a waste of
company time and can lead to errors
due to possible sloppy handwriting.
• Staff should be moved closer together
to minimize time wasted walking
between offices and to meetings.
• Interviewed staff can be interviewed
again to see if proposed methods make
a difference.
• Outcomes can be seen by analyzing the
amount of time projects take before
and after implementation of
suggestions, should the suggestions be
implemented.
