12. Thank you...
Thank you to ALL my family and friends who have
taken this extremely long journey with me. The
poem “Awakening” was written in 1991 based on a
story concept. In 2008, the story finally clawed its
way to my frontal lobe and thus began a steady four
years journey of creative insanity on the
rollercoaster of procrastination.
If I thanked you all individually, it would be a whole
other book but a few must be mentioned here.
13. Thank you to my Mummy for reading to me as an
ankle biter and encouraging the creative creature
within. Thank you to my Not Real Daddy for making
that woman very happy!

18. Awakening
I awoke, I was alone.
My limbs were stiff, unused, weak. My body was cold
and yet my veins were warm; warm and pulsating
with fresh blood.
My lips were dry, my hunger great.
My day had come.
How long had I been here, suspended between life and
death? Which side had I reached? I could feel the life
inside me;
I was alive, I was real.
Yet I felt removed, empty, like an empty shell,
a dead form.
Which was I?
My mind was not my own,
I could not think, I could not remember.
My mind was a sieve, straining between
the mess of madness,
searching for an explanation, a reason,
but only detaining a feeling of loss and remorse.
For something I had control over and regret
for my decision
and yet I felt somehow relieved.
But for what reason, what decision,
I did not know.
I know now.
Remorse?
I have none.
