4. As a medical student, WE have many
responsibilities both within and outside of
the classroom. Here are five
responsibilities commonly associated with
being a medical student:
5. LEARNING
• Medical students have a responsibility to
engage in their coursework, attend lectures, and
study independently to acquire the knowledge
and skills necessary to become competent
physicians.
6. PATIENT-CARE
• Medical students have a responsibility to
provide compassionate, high-quality care to
patients under the supervision of licensed
physicians. This includes conducting
comprehensive patient assessments,
participating in treatment planning, and
providing clear communication to patients and
their families.
7. PROFESSIONALISIM
•Medical students have a responsibility to behave
in a professional manner both inside and outside
of the classroom. This includes adhering to
ethical principles, demonstrating empathy and
respect towards patients and colleagues, and
maintaining appropriate boundaries.
8. RESEARCH
• Medical students have a responsibility to
contribute to the field of medicine by engaging
in research and scholarship. This can involve
conducting original research, participating in
clinical trials, or synthesizing knowledge from
existing research to inform clinical practice.
9. SELF-CARE
• Medical students have a responsibility to
maintain their own physical and mental health in
order to be effective physicians. This can involve
practicing good sleep hygiene, eating well,
engaging in regular exercise, and engaging in
stress management strategies such as
mindfulness or meditation.
