3. What are the key aspects of
your chosen form of media?
(What key things are included
in all music videos?)
4. Narrative -
■ A common aspect of a music video is having a narrative that
is not common, allowing the audience to create their own
meaning of the narrative. Lip syncing and miming are
common in making the video and narrative seem real.
Creating a narrative that seems real allows the audience to
relate and make them want to watch it more than once.
5. Technical aspects.
■ This is what holds the music video together for example; camerawork,
mise-en-scene, editing, sound, special effects etc. Special effects within a
music video is a key as it is what can create a realism to the storyline.
Editing such as cuts and transitions have to be in check to allow the
video to flow with the music and lyrics. Mise-en-scene is also what can
create realism within the setting and storyline, allowing the final
product to be believable.
6. Relation of visuals to the song.
■ Certain images are used to illustrate meanings within the
lyrics to the song being used. Often images or movements are
repeated and reinforced to create a memorable statement.
However a different strategy used is ignoring the meaning of
the song completely.
