Project and Research Experience
Masters Project – Seasonal Drivers of Water Use and Demand Management Research
02/16 – 11/16
Advisors: Mark Thyer, PhD & Nicole Arbon – Determined the drivers of seasonal
household water use using high resolution monitoring data from metropolitan Adelaide.
Performed further investigation by identifying optimal demand management
opportunities using multi-criteria evaluation.
Environmental Challenge International (ECi) Program Competition Project
06/2015
Advisor: Rebekah Oulton, PhD – Team leader in preparing and presenting an optimal
solution to a complex environmental problem. Project consisted of supplying a well-
researched technical and scientific analysis on the environmental impacts associated of
hydraulic fracturing on a community.
Senior Project-Water Supply Solution
09/14 – 03/15
Advisors: Tryg Lundquist, PhD & Rebekah Oulton, PhD – Contributed to designing three
solutions for the City of Santa Cruz and Soquel Creek Water District water shortage
crisis. Became project manager for the Preliminary Water Solution Design Report.
Further developed two of the three proposed solutions, including a two-phase design
comprised of an indirect potable reuse facility and a desalination facility to supplement
the existing water supply.
ASCE Mid-Pacific Water Treatment Competition
04/13 & 04/14
Advisor: Tracy Thatcher, PhD - Competed on a Cal Poly engineering team for the best
design, water quality, construction, and presentation of a water treatment system
composed of only materials found at a hardware store. Applied both research and
resources to aid in the improvement of the overall quality of the water filter system.
WEST Program Research at Cal Poly
01/14 - 03/14
Advisor: Tryg Lundquist, PhD - Studied potential of decreasing NOx emission in biogas
through two-phase anaerobic digestion. Performed tests, and daily maintenance as an
anaerobic digester operator.
