  8. 8. PERSONAL LEADERSHIP You cannot lead others if you cannot lead yourself. You cannot manage others and things if you cannot manage your life and yourself.

It is about developing the right attitude toward colleagues in order to maintain the leader’s relationships throughout the group's journey to its shared vision or goal. The right attitude is to believe that other people are as important as oneself and see leadership as an act of service.

KEYS TO DEVELOPING CULTIVATION OF RIGHT ATTITUDE TOWARDS OTHER PEOPLE Ensure that: There is a demanding, distinctive, shared vision that everyone in the group cares about and wants to achieve. The leader works on self-mastery to reduce self-esteem issues that make it hard to connect with, appreciate and adopt an attitude of service towards colleagues.

  17. 17. WORKING ON PSYCHOLOGICAL SELF-MASTERY Self mastery is all about; 1. Self-control: not doing the things you want to, but know you shouldn’t do. EXAMPLES… Much tv, Much social media Much gisting, Oversleeping, Chatting etc. suggest more for the workplace.

EXAMPLES…planning, Reading-learning-studying Acquiring new skills exercising, Praying- meditating Deep work. Networking-Relating Thinking - reflecting etc. Suggest others for workplace

EXAMPLES OF SCHEDULE FOR PRACTICING SELF- DISCIPLINE Some Rules for Achieving Self-Discipline: •Depending on the cycle of your work, sleep early and wake up early- 10p.m.-11p.m. bedtime, 4a.m- 5 a.m. wake up •First thing upon waking, a glass or two of water – also throughout the days •Practice Morning Gratitude, Affirmations, and Meditations •Don’t go to your social media once you wake. •Take morning organized exercises •Take Evening Walk •Practice Journaling

  22. 22. HOW TO CULTIVATE SELF- DISCIPLINE It Starts With Self-Control Eliminating negative habits that don’t serve your highest-self is the first step towards self- discipline.
  23. 23. HOW TO CULTIVATE SELF- DISCIPLINE Establish Consistent Habits and a Positive Routine. “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” — Aristotle
  24. 24. HOW TO CULTIVATE SELF- DISCIPLINE Anchor New Habits to “After” The idea is to connect a new habit to an existing behavior. By anchoring a new habit to an existing one, we are chaining something new to an already established habit i.e., if you already eat breakfast but want to start taking vitamins, then establish the practice of taking your vitamins after breakfast.

  26. 26. HOW TO CULTIVATE SELF- DISCIPLINE Utilize the Power of Visualization and Rehearsal By visualizing the outcome and mentally rehearsing yourself successfully performing a desired action you are reducing the friction involved in performing these actions.
  27. 27. HOW TO CULTIVATE SELF- DISCIPLINE Take Right Action Right action is doing things that are positive and that you should be doing. Every time you make your bed, or hang up a sweater, or rinse a dish, or pay a bill, or do anything positive that requires self-discipline, you are strengthening your will.
  28. 28. HOW TO CULTIVATE SELF- DISCIPLINE Apply the Pareto Principle The Pareto Principle states that 80% of the results come from 20% of the actions. By focusing on the 20% of your actions that are responsible for 80% of your results, you are able to leverage your time far better than if you weigh all your actions equally.

HOW TO CULTIVATE SELF- DISCIPLINE Eliminate Procrastination – Eat the Frog and Face the Fear “Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.” – Mark Twain By doing the thing you most do not want to do first thing in your day, you are eliminating procrastination and facing your fear.

HOW TO CULTIVATE SELF- DISCIPLINE Prioritize and Set Daily Goals There is only so much time in the day, so much energy, and so much willpower. Make written list of your actions Prioritize them according to what must be done. Experiment with what works for you, but make sure you stick to this practice. No written actions no goal
  31. 31. HOW TO CULTIVATE SELF- DISCIPLINE Delay Gratification and Keep Your Eye on The Prize with Big Goals Those who practice delayed gratitude show higher emotional intelligence. Over time they become higher achievers than those do not.
