Reporting to the section lead for NG projects my other responsibilities include developing the design intent document during tender phase with all stakeholders to enable subsequent PMI award. Developing risk pots for project unknowns. Design coordination between all disciplines including Primary / Civils / Secondary / HV cables / Commissioning / Engineering Support and Technology teams. Engineering design program development, ongoing project delivery phase program updating and management, engineering discipline budget monitoring. Scope creep management including QS support to develop compensation events where applicable. Calling, chairing and producing minutes for both internal / client design and hazid reviews, ongoing monitoring and closing out of all relevant actions for design deliverables. Supplier drawing co-ordination and technical alignment monitoring activities to ensure design process is maintained in line with program. Ensuring all legislative, business management system and client processes are followed and recorded where relevant. Senior Substation Layout Engineer 1999 - 2000 Conceptual and detail design responsibility for a new 132kV / 11kV Substation at Birmingham University (2 off transformers). Responsible for all primary layout design works including civil interfaces. Extremely tight design constraints. Successful completion. Clough Smith Ltd. Brickyard Road Aldridge West Midlands WS9 8TA Project Manager (HV Substations) June 1997 – 1999 Overall control i.e. financial; engineering; construction of HV substation projects. Project managed - Lydney Local 132kV/33kV contract for MEB. Contract included the installation of a 132kV/33kV (90MVA) transformer and associated switchgear; Protection; SCADA; LVAC./Building services; D.C. battery system etc. Along with 132kV O/H line modifications and the installation of 33kV cable. Included all associated civil works. Managed the preparation of tenders for various other REC’s. Project managed 11kV refurbishment works for Norweb. Fully conversant with CDM regulations and quality requirements for H.V. substation projects; along with all relevant British and international standards. Extensive experience in the power engineering field from 11kV to 400kV. “Hands on approach”: able to carry out detailed engineering duties when required, with confidence. ESBI Engineering (UK) Ltd. (Consulting engineers/contractors) 122 London Road Kingston upon Thames Surrey KT2 6QJ Senior Design Engineer Feb 1995 – June 1997 Complete primary design responsibility for all HV switchyards from 33kV up to 400kV. My job involved engineering/co-ordinating all aspects of projects from tendering through to final commissioning. This involved:
  5. 5. ♦ Reviewing and completing tenders. ♦ Liaising with clients/sub-contractors on financial/technical matters. ♦ Overseeing and approving all works associated with outdoor switchyard layout. ♦ Outdoor switchyard design using CAD (Micro-station). ♦ Engineering/specifying: Busbars, Connectors, Insulators, Structures/Steelwork, Cable routing, Earthing, and Interlocking. ♦ Liaising with civil works engineer on all aspects associated with outdoor switchyard design. ♦ Overhead line work (within the substation) engineering/co-ordinating. ♦ Static/Dynamic load verification of all switchgear and foundations. Engineered ESBI’s first 132kV/66kV project for London Electricity. Also, engineered large 132kV contract for MEB. Heavily involved in securing a large contract from Yorkshire electricity (132kV/ 66kV s/s). Carried out consultancy works for Yorkshire electricity. This involved feasibility studies with a view to replacing a number of primary substations. Consultancy work successfully completed – Aldham 66kV Substation. Actively involved in the company’s business development plans which was rewarded with ESBI’s first contract with Scottish Power (132kV). Good understanding of all the protection/control requirements for HV substations. Used to working with software packages i.e. Project, Excel, Word, Micro-station to achieve main tasks.
