  2. 2. Commodity News: Gold in India dips on back of a stronger rupee Gold prices rose in Europe on Thursday breaking four days of losses following a recovery in the euro although speculation over Spain seeking bailout capped the yellow metal's gains. Spot gold was bid up at $1,769.74 an ounce (28.3 gram) in early trade and silver was bid higher at $34.22 an ounce. But prices slipped in India on the back of a strong rupee, which closed 37 paise higher at 52.68 against the dollar, and due to lack of buying. Indian gold prices are generally determined by international prices and the rupee plays an important role in determining the landed cost of the dollar-quoted yellow metal. Vietnam coffee harvest to drop 9.4% on dry weather Coffee production in Vietnam, the world's biggest grower of the robusta variety used by NestleBSE -0.18 % in instant drinks, is poised to decline from a record as dry weather cuts yields, bolstering prices.
