2. Nowadays, sci-fi genre film is very popular in the community. Why is it so
popular? It is popular because sci-fi is something that is possible to happen in the
real world although it had not happen yet. Unlike fantasy movies, it is impossible
to happen in the real world, horror movies are only jump scare that want to
frighten people. That’s why I prefer sci-fi movies. These two movies are quite
famous in the societies; War of the worlds and Alien Versus Predator. There are a
few contrasts between these two movies. I prefer Alien versus Predator. Why?
In these two movies, they are talking about aliens killing human, but the
different is War of the Worlds is saying that the alien harvesting human blood
and tissue to fertilize red weed, which was the alien’s plant. The alien plan for a
long time to attack the Earth, they buried their killing machine underground for
many years ago. On the other hand, Alien versus Predator they are talking about
the predator is the one who teach early human civilization the method to build
pyramid. So in a long time ago, human will choose some people to go in to the
pyramid to be sacrifice themselves as host of the alien. Every 100 years predator
will visit the Earth and have an “ultimate hunt”. Nowadays they don’t have any
human willing to sacrifice themselves, so they use some method to attract
human to go to the pyramid to become the host of the aliens to let the aliens
grow and started the hunt.
As for the main character for War of the Worlds is Ray Ferrier. He is a
divorced crane operator longshoreman who works at a dock. He estranged
himself from his children. He has a 10-year old daughter and a teenage son. After
the alien invasion happened, Ray with his children trying their best to survive in

3. the alien invasion. For the Alien Versus Predator, the main character is Alexa
Wood. The main character is a woman who is a guide. She was hired by a
wealthy industrialist Charles Bishop Weyland to discover a pyramid beneath an
island, which detects by a satellite. She leads a group of archeologists, linguistic
experts, drillers, and mercenaries to investigate the mystical pyramid. From the
main character, you can see the contrast between these two movies are the
gender of the main character is different, and Ray is the one who leading two
people which means his children, and Alexa is the one who leads a group of
people which means the group that going to investigate the pyramid.
In both of the movies, you can see love and sacrifice in it but the different
is for the War of the Worlds the love that shows is love between family, for Alien
Versus Predator the love that shows is love between friends. In War of the
World, Ray can sacrifice for his daughter named Rachel. When the killing
machine that control by the alien catches Rachel, Ray volunteers to let the alien
get him too. After that, he used his own body to protect Rachel from taking away
by the alien. Fortunately, he grabs a bunch of grenade and kill the alien from the
inside. In Alien Versus Predator, Alexa care about Weyland’s condition when she
found that Weyland had asthma. Alexa also care about all the teammates, she tell
everyone to stick together to protect each other. After that, Weyland sacrifice
himself by fighting with the predator to let Alexa and Sebastian to have enough
time to run away from the attack of predator.
In the War of the Worlds, you can see that human is cruel. When the alien
invasion, most of the car cannot move, but there is a car just finished repair, so

4. the car is able to start. Ray drives the car and going to find somewhere safe, but
when he drive until a place with lots of people, they attack Ray for the car. After
Ray had been chase out from the car. All the people there were killing each other
for the car. Ray killed Ogilvy who suffers mental breakdown to protect himself
and his daughter from spotted by the alien. In Alien Versus Predator, Alexa and
Sebastian were trying to stop those aliens from getting out from the pyramid to
protect the people that were living in city. They try to group up with predator to
kill the alien together, but unfortunately, Sebastian had been implanted alien
embryo by the alien. Alexa killed Sebastian by herself to let Sebastian stop
suffering.
In these two movies, they are the same genre of movie, they both also
share the same enemy, which means the alien, but there was many contrast
between these two movies. But for me, I prefer the Alien Versus Predator,
because the graphic are nicer and the storyline was unexpected.
