Eliminate Your Fear,
Anxiety and Worry with EASE!!!
You can’t work,
You can’t talk to anyone,
You can’t think in a positive way and
The worst part – nobody understands what’s wrong with you?
These particular feelings can be disheartening; they may stop you from living the happy life you
really want.
Whatever scares you, here are a few simple ways to help you cope with the fear, anxiety and
worries:
Deep Breath -
Believe it or not, breath work is as old as human kind. In the Old Testament, God breathed into
Adam the “breath of life”. I think about this often… such a powerful statement. Each breath we
take gives life. The kind of breath we utilize makes the big difference. When you’re stressed,
you tend to use short, shallow breaths. Conversely, when you’re more relaxed or sleeping, you
tend to breathe more deeply and slowly.
I primarily learned breath work from my yoga instructor, the lovely Audrey Walzer. When I
realized the power of this work, I began sharing it with my private clients! There are different
breathing techniques for different occasions, but for today’s purposes, I teach you the
relaxation method I use with clients, which will give you IMMEDIATE results. Read on…
First, sit quietly for a moment and check in with your body. On a scale from 0-10 (zero being
none and 10 being HIGH), rate how much fear, anxiety or worry are you noticing. Notice your
breathing. Notice how long you inhale and how long you exhale. Are your breaths short and
shallow, or deep, slow and long, or somewhere in between? Just notice.
Now, I want you to start inhaling through your nose, while you exhale through your lips. Just
notice how the air flows into your nostrils and how it feels as it exits across your lips.
Next, imagine your belly has a balloon in it and you fill the balloon with your inhalation. Fill the
balloon and then fill your lungs from the bottom to the very tippy top, until you cannot hold
anymore air. Hold this fresh air within you and allow it to circulate through your body,
especially those areas, like your shoulders, where you tend to hold stress. Then, release very
slowly through your lips for a count of 5-10, whatever feels good for you.
Check in again with your body… notice a difference? I not a gambler, but I’ll bet you are on the
road to eliminating the anxiety! Rate (0-10) your fear, anxiety or worry again, after you’ve
repeated this exercise a few times. How much did it decrease? Notice that.
This deep breathing exercise allows you the opportunity to center, reclaim your power and
revitalize your mind, body and spirit. I recommend doing it often throughout the day.
When I was going through a particular difficult time (perhaps you’ve read My Story, I was being
stalked by my former spouse, had to live in a safe house and was in a constant state of fear), I
actually put on my electronic calendar to remind me every hour to do deep breathing. This
helped calm my mind and my nervous system.
Relaxation -
If you are doing too much, you must make time so you can physically calm down. Massage,
Yoga, Reiki, Meditation can help you! All four are beneficial and I recommend trying them all at
least once to find the right fit for you.
Massage, as you probably know, works the physical body to release muscles that are tied in
knots from fear, anxiety and worry. It also requires you to lie still and breath.
Yoga, on the other hand, combines working the physical body in such a way that is also
meditative. As a born multi-tasker, type-A personality, I absolutely LOVE this practice. It quiets
my mind and requires me to focus on the moment, or pose… and breathe!
Reiki is Divine energy work and creates a very peaceful environment for healing and wholeness.
At first, I really wasn’t too sure I wanted to learn Reiki, but I have come to hold it in high
regard. My friend, Shannon Sosebee in Ventura, California, is a Reiki Master, teaches regularly
and is one of the most peaceful people I know. I have loved receiving Reiki treatments from
her. When you experience Reiki, you may not always feel like anything is happening, but a
good practitioner will help you move stagnant, twisted energy out of your body to restore
peace and harmony. It is transformational work! [While I am certified as a Reiki II practitioner, I
utilize this wonderful tool differently than most, and in conjunction with deep healing work I do
with private and group clients.]
Keep yourself busy -
If you are free and just worrying about everything get busy, find a hobby. Cooking?, writing
poems?, Knitting?, Sewing?, or whatever… this is the right time.
Studies show the chopping part of cooking can be very stress relieving. My husband, Jon, is an
excellent cook. We will likely never hear him chanting Om in a yoga class. However, cooking is
his meditation and his expression of creativity, which he delights in sharing and our friends and
I gladly receive!
Many communities have seasonal classes, which give you the opportunity to try everything
from belly dancing to Tai Chi to fencing to knitting, and so much more! So no more excuses, try
something new or revive an old hobby.
Some groups will teach basic knitting and crocheting as a community outreach to make bonnets
and blankets for mothers and babies. Utilizing hobbies for the betterment of a neighbor will
quickly and easily take the focus off of your fears, anxieties and worries. Who knows, perhaps
you’ll make a new friend along the way.
Visualize -
At any moment or place you can close your eyes and imagine about something that makes you
happy. It could be a scene of a calm place, memories of your childhood.
The movie, Happy Gilmore, says it this way, “Go to your happy place.”
Go to a mountain lake, recall your happiest childhood memory, whatever it is for you… travel in
your mind. Juice up the good feelings this mental travel brings you by noticing the following:
• Is the scene in color or black & white?
• Is the scene moving or like a framed picture?
• Are there other people with you? If so, notice the details of their faces.
• How about sounds? Do you hear a breeze, birds chirping or laughter? Notice what you
hear in your happy place.
• How do you feel in your happy place? Notice both physical feelings and emotional
feelings. Where in your body do you feel these sensations?
• Are there any tastes or smells associated with your happy place? Did you know smell is
the strongest memory inducer?
I love suggesting to my clients when they are confronted with a difficult person or situation,
which causes them fear, anxiety or worry, to go to their happy place utilizing all their senses.
The same holds true if you constantly recall a bad memory. NLP (neuro-linguistic programming)
has a tool called Swish, where you can literally flip an old, yucky memory with one that brings
you peace, joy and comfort. Your mind is a powerful tool; use it to your benefit! Visualize the
opposite of your fear, anxiety and worries often, and remember… where your attention goes,
energy flows. So if you continue the path of fear, anxiety and worry, you will, without a doubt
have more fear, anxiety and worry. If you think about what brings you peace, joy, love,
confidence, etc., then you’ll see more evidence of these in your life. So practice flipping the
fear and visualizing your blissful, happy place.
Take some positive action -
Jack Canfield, author of The Success Principles, says the key to motivation is to take action! If
you’re having a tough time getting motivated, then set a timer for 10 minutes and do
something on a project on which you’ve been procrastinating. (The root of procrastination is
fear by the way, and the longer you procrastinate the higher the anxiety around the project! ) If
at the end of 10 minutes, you want to keep going on your project, then do so. Either way, count
it a victory. You’ve just moved your project forward. WOOHOO!
Tomorrow, do it again. I had a boss who regularly said, “How do you eat an elephant? One bite
at a time.” Small steps lead to big victories!
In The Success Principles book, Jack Canfield also suggests the MTO method.
M- Minimum; Set a minimum goal, to get you moving.
T- Target; Set a Target goal, of what you really want.
O- Optimal; Set an optimal goal, that exceeds your wildest imagination.
For example, if you want to have a clean garage:
The Minimum Goal might be work on organizing your garage for 15 minutes.
The Target Goal might be at the end of 30 days, the entire garage has room for the car and the
holiday decorations are in clearly marked boxes.
The Optimal Goal might be to hire four laborers, a professional organizer, have the garage
painted a cheerful color and hire a cabinet company to install custom cabinetry.
How might you utilize the timer and MTO methods to get into action on your next day off
work?
Choose one or two of these fear, anxiety and worry elimination tips today! Comment below, to
which you are committing, and then let us know how you’re doing? Look for Part 2 of this
article soon. Eventually, work through all of the suggestions to add the joy of new experiences
to your life.
There is nothing my team and I want more for you than to have the peace of mind you crave. If
there is anything we can do to serve you, please let us know.
Joyfully,
Kimberly A. Reid, MNLP, C.Ht.

Eliminate Anxiety and Worry with EASE

  • 1. Eliminate Your Fear, Anxiety and Worry with EASE!!! You can’t work, You can’t talk to anyone, You can’t think in a positive way and The worst part – nobody understands what’s wrong with you? These particular feelings can be disheartening; they may stop you from living the happy life you really want. Whatever scares you, here are a few simple ways to help you cope with the fear, anxiety and worries: Deep Breath - Believe it or not, breath work is as old as human kind. In the Old Testament, God breathed into Adam the “breath of life”. I think about this often… such a powerful statement. Each breath we take gives life. The kind of breath we utilize makes the big difference. When you’re stressed, you tend to use short, shallow breaths. Conversely, when you’re more relaxed or sleeping, you tend to breathe more deeply and slowly. I primarily learned breath work from my yoga instructor, the lovely Audrey Walzer. When I realized the power of this work, I began sharing it with my private clients! There are different breathing techniques for different occasions, but for today’s purposes, I teach you the relaxation method I use with clients, which will give you IMMEDIATE results. Read on… First, sit quietly for a moment and check in with your body. On a scale from 0-10 (zero being none and 10 being HIGH), rate how much fear, anxiety or worry are you noticing. Notice your breathing. Notice how long you inhale and how long you exhale. Are your breaths short and shallow, or deep, slow and long, or somewhere in between? Just notice. Now, I want you to start inhaling through your nose, while you exhale through your lips. Just notice how the air flows into your nostrils and how it feels as it exits across your lips. Next, imagine your belly has a balloon in it and you fill the balloon with your inhalation. Fill the balloon and then fill your lungs from the bottom to the very tippy top, until you cannot hold anymore air. Hold this fresh air within you and allow it to circulate through your body, especially those areas, like your shoulders, where you tend to hold stress. Then, release very slowly through your lips for a count of 5-10, whatever feels good for you.
  • 2. Check in again with your body… notice a difference? I not a gambler, but I’ll bet you are on the road to eliminating the anxiety! Rate (0-10) your fear, anxiety or worry again, after you’ve repeated this exercise a few times. How much did it decrease? Notice that. This deep breathing exercise allows you the opportunity to center, reclaim your power and revitalize your mind, body and spirit. I recommend doing it often throughout the day. When I was going through a particular difficult time (perhaps you’ve read My Story, I was being stalked by my former spouse, had to live in a safe house and was in a constant state of fear), I actually put on my electronic calendar to remind me every hour to do deep breathing. This helped calm my mind and my nervous system. Relaxation - If you are doing too much, you must make time so you can physically calm down. Massage, Yoga, Reiki, Meditation can help you! All four are beneficial and I recommend trying them all at least once to find the right fit for you. Massage, as you probably know, works the physical body to release muscles that are tied in knots from fear, anxiety and worry. It also requires you to lie still and breath. Yoga, on the other hand, combines working the physical body in such a way that is also meditative. As a born multi-tasker, type-A personality, I absolutely LOVE this practice. It quiets my mind and requires me to focus on the moment, or pose… and breathe! Reiki is Divine energy work and creates a very peaceful environment for healing and wholeness. At first, I really wasn’t too sure I wanted to learn Reiki, but I have come to hold it in high regard. My friend, Shannon Sosebee in Ventura, California, is a Reiki Master, teaches regularly and is one of the most peaceful people I know. I have loved receiving Reiki treatments from her. When you experience Reiki, you may not always feel like anything is happening, but a good practitioner will help you move stagnant, twisted energy out of your body to restore peace and harmony. It is transformational work! [While I am certified as a Reiki II practitioner, I utilize this wonderful tool differently than most, and in conjunction with deep healing work I do with private and group clients.] Keep yourself busy - If you are free and just worrying about everything get busy, find a hobby. Cooking?, writing poems?, Knitting?, Sewing?, or whatever… this is the right time. Studies show the chopping part of cooking can be very stress relieving. My husband, Jon, is an excellent cook. We will likely never hear him chanting Om in a yoga class. However, cooking is his meditation and his expression of creativity, which he delights in sharing and our friends and I gladly receive!
  • 3. Many communities have seasonal classes, which give you the opportunity to try everything from belly dancing to Tai Chi to fencing to knitting, and so much more! So no more excuses, try something new or revive an old hobby. Some groups will teach basic knitting and crocheting as a community outreach to make bonnets and blankets for mothers and babies. Utilizing hobbies for the betterment of a neighbor will quickly and easily take the focus off of your fears, anxieties and worries. Who knows, perhaps you’ll make a new friend along the way. Visualize - At any moment or place you can close your eyes and imagine about something that makes you happy. It could be a scene of a calm place, memories of your childhood. The movie, Happy Gilmore, says it this way, “Go to your happy place.” Go to a mountain lake, recall your happiest childhood memory, whatever it is for you… travel in your mind. Juice up the good feelings this mental travel brings you by noticing the following: • Is the scene in color or black & white? • Is the scene moving or like a framed picture? • Are there other people with you? If so, notice the details of their faces. • How about sounds? Do you hear a breeze, birds chirping or laughter? Notice what you hear in your happy place. • How do you feel in your happy place? Notice both physical feelings and emotional feelings. Where in your body do you feel these sensations? • Are there any tastes or smells associated with your happy place? Did you know smell is the strongest memory inducer? I love suggesting to my clients when they are confronted with a difficult person or situation, which causes them fear, anxiety or worry, to go to their happy place utilizing all their senses. The same holds true if you constantly recall a bad memory. NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) has a tool called Swish, where you can literally flip an old, yucky memory with one that brings you peace, joy and comfort. Your mind is a powerful tool; use it to your benefit! Visualize the opposite of your fear, anxiety and worries often, and remember… where your attention goes, energy flows. So if you continue the path of fear, anxiety and worry, you will, without a doubt have more fear, anxiety and worry. If you think about what brings you peace, joy, love, confidence, etc., then you’ll see more evidence of these in your life. So practice flipping the fear and visualizing your blissful, happy place. Take some positive action - Jack Canfield, author of The Success Principles, says the key to motivation is to take action! If
  • 4. you’re having a tough time getting motivated, then set a timer for 10 minutes and do something on a project on which you’ve been procrastinating. (The root of procrastination is fear by the way, and the longer you procrastinate the higher the anxiety around the project! ) If at the end of 10 minutes, you want to keep going on your project, then do so. Either way, count it a victory. You’ve just moved your project forward. WOOHOO! Tomorrow, do it again. I had a boss who regularly said, “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” Small steps lead to big victories! In The Success Principles book, Jack Canfield also suggests the MTO method. M- Minimum; Set a minimum goal, to get you moving. T- Target; Set a Target goal, of what you really want. O- Optimal; Set an optimal goal, that exceeds your wildest imagination. For example, if you want to have a clean garage: The Minimum Goal might be work on organizing your garage for 15 minutes. The Target Goal might be at the end of 30 days, the entire garage has room for the car and the holiday decorations are in clearly marked boxes. The Optimal Goal might be to hire four laborers, a professional organizer, have the garage painted a cheerful color and hire a cabinet company to install custom cabinetry. How might you utilize the timer and MTO methods to get into action on your next day off work? Choose one or two of these fear, anxiety and worry elimination tips today!
