4. Plastic pollution
Plastics are organic materials that we
use excessively in our daily life as it
helps us to make our lives easier but
more of it harms us.
Plastic pollution occurs due to the
accumulation of plastic objects and
particles in the earths environment that
adversely affects wildlife, wildlife
habitat and humans.
6. • About 380 million tones of plastic is
produced worldwide each year
• From 1950s until now 6.3 billion
tones of plastic has been produced
out of which 9% has been recycled
and another 12% has been
incinerated and rest 79% of plastic
remain unsettled which is causing
harm to environment

7. • This remaining large amount of
plastic waste enters in the
environment which causes plastic
pollution
• Recent report as of 2020 says that
the global mass of produced plastic
exceeds the biomass of all land
and marine animals combined

9. Plastic
Pollution in
India
As much as 3.3 million
metric tones of plastic
waste was generated in
India in last years
according to the central
pollution control board
CPCB report this roughly
translates use of to 9200
tones a day

10. Plastic
Pollution in
India
The combined annual report
based on (SPCB) state
pollution control board
shows that 60 cities of India
constitutes major part of
plastic pollution that is 2594o
tones per day that means 9.4
million tones per year.
Among these Delhi being the
highest generator of plastic
waste in India which accounts
for 9600 mt per day
12. 1. Population growth and
urbanization
2. Excessive use of plastic
materials
3.Trash dumps
4. Use of single plastics
5. Shipping industry
6. Improper disposal of plastic
waste
7. Low rate of decomposition
13. 1.Population growth
and urbanization
• Urbanization has started moving
on rapidly, which increases the use
of plastic items in our daily lives.
Growing population rate and
urbanization enhance the causes of
plastic pollution, which are
polluting the wildlife, marine life,
and the environment as a whole.
14. 2. Trash dumps
• All the items of our daily use,
whether it is milk, juice, or a water
bottle, everything is covered with
plastic material.
• And When we dispose of these
plastic dump here and there, these
dumps become toxic pollutants and
thus cause plastic pollution
15. 3. Excessive use
of plastics
• The pollution due to plastic are
increasing day by day with the
excessive usage of plastic products.
Plastic takes many years to
decompose.
• Hence it starts accumulating under
the Earth’s surface.
16. 4.Single use plastic
• The plastics which only can be used
once for a short period of time
• Most of the items now a days we use
are single use plastics like plastic
bottles, carry bags, disposable plates &
glasses, packaging items, etc.
• This single-use plastic only increases
the count of plastic waste, as it cannot
be recycled.
17. 5.Shipping
industry
• The shipping industry is another cause
of plastic pollution.
• The beaches have to bear a vast amount
of plastic debris every day that comes
from ships, shipping wastes, sea
accidents, fishing nets, etc.
• This plastic waste causes harmful
effects on the marine ecosystem.
18. 6. Improper Disposal
of plastics waste
• Due to the improper disposal of plastic waste
The land fill of plastic disposal continues to
release harmful toxins in the surrounding and
cause plastic pollution throughout the area. If
you try to burn plastic to decompose, it will
cause more severe damages to the land and air.
• and unfortunately even the process of recycling
plastic also releases plastic pollutants in the air
and environment in various modes that causes
plastic pollution tossssss.
19. 7. Low
Decomposition
Rate
• Due to the strong chemical
bond of plastics, it takes
hundreds of years to
decompose
• A simple plastic bag used to
carry items takes almost 50
years to decompose.
• Plastic bottles take almost 400
years to decompose.
• The fishing nets have a strong
chemical bond of plastic that
usually takes more than 500
years to breakdown
21. Effects on food
and health
• Invisible plastic has been identified in
tap water, beer, salt and are present in
all food items packed in plastics.
Several chemicals used in the
production of plastic materials are
known to be carcinogenic and to
interfere with the body’s endocrine
system, causing developmental,
reproductive, neurological, and
immune disorders in both humans and
wildlife.
22. Land pollution
When plastic is dumped in landfills, it
interacts with water and forms
hazardous chemicals. When these
chemicals seep underground, they
degrade the water quality. The wind
carries and deposits plastic from one
place to another, increasing the land
litter. It can also get stuck on poles,
traffic lights, trees, fences, towers, etc.
and animals that may come in the
vicinity and might suffocate them
23. Air pollution
Burning of plastic in the open-
air leads to environmental
pollution due to the release of
poisonous chemicals. The
polluted air, when inhaled by
humans and animals, affects
their health and can cause
respiratory problems

24. Effects on soil
and groundwater
• Plastic can release harmful chemicals
into the surrounding soil, which can
then seep into groundwater or other
surrounding water sources, and also
the ecosystem. This can cause a range
of potentially harmful effects on the
species that drink the water.
• Soil pollution affects the food we eat,
the water we drink, the air we breathe,
and the health of our ecosystems.
25. Impact on marine
environment
• The most disturbing impacts of
plastics on marine life are the
ingestion, suffocation and
entanglement of hundreds of
marine species. Marine wildlife
such as seabirds, whales, fishes
and turtles, mistake plastic waste
for prey, and most of them die
as their stomachs are filled with
plastic debris.
26. It kills animals
All the plastic trash dumps
residing here and there are eaten
by animals like cows, bird's
street dogs and other animals
causing their death.
27. It is poisonous
Man, artificially makes plastic by using
several toxic chemicals. Therefore, the
use of and exposure to plastics have
been linked to numerous health
concerns affecting people around the
world. The processes of making,
storing, disposing of, and just being
around plastics can be extremely
harmful and poisonous to living things

2.Get Rid Of Bottled Water
3.Forget to go- Containers
4.Educate Businesses
5.Recycle Everything
CONTROL MEASURES-
29. 1. Shop Friendly
Plastic bags were once a
modern convenience but can
be effectively replaced by
reusable bags.
Carry a bag and always reuse
plastic bags as much as
possible.
30. 2 .Get Rid of Bottled Water
• People are supposed to drink plenty of water every
day, and giant water bottles are becoming a way to
stay hydrated all day. Furthermore, some of these
are only approved for individual use, which ensures
that any time anyone finishes a container, it falls into
the garbage. Several businesses are now offering
recycled bottles of water as a replacement, reducing
plastic pollution and access to leaky bottles.
31. • Plastic food containers, lids
and utensils are all easily
replaced by reusable
containers , which will cut
down significantly on even a
single meal waste.
3.Forget to go -
Containers
32. 4.Educate
Businesses
• Speak to local restaurants
and businesses about
options that they can switch
to for packaging, storing
and bagging items. Many
companies are starting to
come up with excellent low
cost replacements such as
bamboo utensils in place of
plastic ones.
33. 5.Recycle Everything
• Try and select items that come
in non-plastic recycled and
recyclable packaging to do our
best to properly handle items
that can't be reused. Check
everything before we put it in
the trash as more and more
items are able to be recycled
these days.
34. What Can We Do To Save Our Environment?
1.It is impossible to eliminate most plastic from daily life but it
is prudent for our health and environment to curb the use of
some.
2. Proper management for disposal and public awareness would
bring a great difference in present situation.
3. Overall reduction in plastic usage.
4. Handover plastic properly for recycling or disposal.
5. Do not let plastic litter the environment.
OUR RESPONSIBILITY
36. Steps Taken by Government
INDIA SAYS ‘NO TO PLASTIC POLLUTION’
With "Beat Plastic Pollution"
as the theme for this day India
went big with an
announcement to wipe out all
the single-use plastic from the
country.
37. This announcement give an extension to the activities
carried on by millions of Indians like policymakers,
celebrity business magnets and small entrepreneurs,
innovators environmentalist and activist against plastic
pollution around the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded World
Environment Day as an outset of a global movement to
overthrow single- use plastic which will contribute to
the country's Rapid economic development.
38. CURRENTLY WORKING ORGANISATIONS-
working toward a more just, equitable world free of
plastic pollution and its toxic impacts on humans,
animals, waterways, oceans, and the environment.
The Ocean Cleanup can significantly reduce the
concentration of plastic in the ocean garbage
patches and work with stakeholders all over the
world to intercept plastic in the world's most
polluted rivers. With the application of these
solutions, our aim is to reduce 90% of the
floating plastic pollution by 2040.
39. BHAMLA FOUNDATION
Through steady action, they will
ensure a bright future for our
beautiful planet. They stand proudly
united as one. Their goal is to
protect our planet. Together, they’re
part of something larger and
extraordinary. The future of our
planet depends on all of us acting
now. With their combined efforts,
they can prevent our planet on the
verge of extinction from
disappearing forever.
41. Plastic Pollution is a major threat to the environment. It is the
responsibility of the people to save the mother earth from getting
polluted .Improper disposal of plastic wastes will have a wide impact
on using green alternatives and proper disposal of wastes should be
strictly followed to make the planet free from plastic pollution .
Each and every human is responsible to conserve the environment by
reducing plastic pollution. “ REDUCE, REUSE, AND RECYCLE”
the plastic wastes to conserve the environment.
