ANNEXURE
4. M.TECH. PROJECT
Organisation: CESE, IIT Bombay
Title: Fate of Microbes in Zero Valent Iron Filtration System
Period: June’10 - June’11
Description: The prevalent methods of drinking water disinfection have harmful side effects and are reported to
cause cancer and other deadly diseases. Moreover, these modern disinfection methods are not
available for the people living in rural India. So, an effort was made to establish the use of Iron in
elemental form (Zero Valent Iron) as a disinfectant. The Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) generated
during oxidation of Iron from elemental form to Ferrous and to Ferric State were used to kill the
microorganisms (E.coli) in water.
Learning: Use of Iron as a disinfectant could be a cheap solution to many water borne diseases in the rural areas
where surface water/groundwater was often contaminated with sewage.
B.TECH. PROJECT
Organisation: National Chemical Laboratories (NCL), Pune
Title: Adsorption - Desorption Studies of CO2 on Different Adsorbents
Period: Dec’06 - Apr’07
Description: The project involved a team of 4 members to develop storage cum source type of adsorbent for the
beneficial sequestration of CO2. Studied the adsorption and release of CO2 on different zeolites and
synthesized catalysts with the help of Temperature Swing Adsorption (TSA) Method.
MINI PROJECTS / TERM PAPERS
Organisation: CESE, IIT Bombay
Title: EIA of Oil Spill Accident which Occurred near Mumbai Harbour
