About Farm Bureau
The Kern County Farm
Bureau (KCFB) was
organized in 1914 and is
affiliated with the Cal-
ifornia and American
Farm Bureau Federations through a
uniform membership agreement. Our
purpose is to surface, analyze and
solve the problems of farmers and
ranchers. By joining together, farmers and
ranchers are able to accomplish much more than
acting as individuals. Farm Bureau's roots can be
traced back to the Cooperative Extension System
and today, Farm Bureau and the Cooperative
Extension have a close working relationship.
Membership in Farm Bureau begins at the basic
level, the county. This is where one joins the
organization. Every county Farm Bureau is a
member of the California
Farm Bureau Federation
(CFBF). CFBF has 53
county members. The state
organization is a member
of American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF).
AFBF has 51 members, the 50 state federations
plus the Farm Bureau representing Puerto Rico.
The entire Farm Bureau organization represents 5
million farm families nationwide and nearly
90,000 of them reside in California.
Young Farmers & Ranchers
YF&R members are active agriculturists between
the ages of 18 and 35 who are involved in
production agriculture. YF&R’s develop
leadership skills while volunteering time as active,
vital members of the Kern County farming
community.

of Kern County’s farming community
through organized action.
The Kern County Farm Bureau (KCFB) is
a non-governmental, non-profit, voluntary
membership California corporation.
While Farm Bureau does not affiliate itself
with any political party, it does have a
philosophical belief favoring the private
competitive enterprise system, private
property rights and pricing determined by a
free marketplace. Farm Bureau favors
streamlined government regulation and fair
taxation and it encourages its members to
support candidates for public office who
share these beliefs.
Membership dues are generally not
deductible as charitable contributions for
federal income tax purposes; however, they
may be deductible as business expenses.
Unreimbursed employee expenses may also
be deductible.

KCFB is an IRS 501(c)(5) designated
tax-exempt ‘Agricultural Organization’;
promoting the interest of persons engaged
in raising livestock, harvesting crops or
aquatic resources, cultivating useful or
ornamental plants, or similar pursuits.
Agricultural members are individuals or
businesses who receive income from the lo-
cal farming industry and have voting rights in
Farm Bureau’s policy process. Associate
members are individuals or businesses who
do not receive income from the local farming
industry and do not have voting rights in
Farm Bureau’s policy process.
KCFB is divided into 3 geographic districts
(North, Southeast, and Southwest Kern
County) and each district is represented by a
maximum of 11 directors on the Board of
Directors. The Directors meet on the 3rd
Thursday of every month. The Annual
Meeting for all members is held in October,
at which time Officers and Board Members
are ratified by those in attendance who
