- 2. This is the story of the Moken, an indigenous community of sea nomads living off the coast of Burma and Thailand.
- 3. They have lived in their traditional boats for over 3500 years, so their maritime knowledge is unique.
- 4. But, they are citizenless and, like all indigenous people, they’re fighting for survival.
- 5. We aim to engage people to contribute to the survival and future of the Mokens. To enable them to create a sustainable future and empower all of us to make a difference.
- 6. ProjectMoken has a documentary film at its heart, but aims to engage and involve the world through a unique online campaign
- 7. This is the idea
- 8. The Moken people have used a special tree in their boat-building traditions for thousands of years. Until now.
- 9. The Burmese and Thai governments refuses to let the Moken people continue this tradition resulting in the deprivation of their culture.
- 10. We want to create a digital tree, growing with the names of thousands of people in support of the Moken people.
- 11. If called for, the tree will later be used as a petition towards the Burmese and Thai governments.
- 12. Help us build the biggest tree in the world in order to sacrifice one that can save an entire culture.
