NPP NATIONAL YOUTH WING REACTS TO DEMOCRACY
HUB DEMO' – WE ARE FIXING GHANA!
1. I followed with keen interest a 3-Day demonstration organised by a group known as Democracy
Hub. I want to firstly condemn the action of the police force on the first day of the demonstration. I
thought that the barbaric act that was meted on us in September 2015, where we were brutalised,
served as a lesson for the police to learn from and never to repeat again but alas.
2. For the records, the right to demonstrate is inalienable and guaranteed by the constitution. Citizens
have the right to protest, albeit peacefully to drum home their demand(s).
3. I tried so hard in the 3 days of the protest to take home the most salient reason and demand for the
protest, but nothing concrete. Except for the usual rhetoric of fix the road, motorway, cost of living
and other tangentials, which borders on politics.
4. I am a patriot of this great country and also seek what's best for us all. We have all been affected by
hardships brought upon us due to the economic crisis we have been through since 2021. It's
imperative to point to the ravaging consequences of Covid-19 and the current supply chain
disruptions caused by the war in Eastern Europe. This has dealt a significant blow to our economic
outlook as a country, just as the entire global economy has been struck by these catastrophic
events. For example, inflation rose to a 30-year high to 8% in the USA and, consequently, increasing
the prices of fuel, food, mortgages, etc. The Biden administration is being criticised as well.
5. This government inherited an economy that was in tatters in 2017, GDP growth averaged 3.5%,
significant job losses due to Dumsor, freeze on public sector employment, all statutory accounts
were in arrears. Unemployment was high at 5.5%. This saw teacher and nurse trainees who had
completed school sit at home for 4 years until this government came into office.
6. It is okay to criticise this government. We are human and have flaws, but in terms of infrastructural
development, youth employment and support, and investment in the digital economy, no
government comes near this Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government. Yet, I understand that the current
economic difficulties make it difficult to appreciate the vast improvement we have witnessed in this
country under the Akufo-Addo government.
7. This Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government is fixing the Ofankor-Nsawam dualisation of the Accra-
Kumasi Highway, which the NDC couldn't do in 8 years. The Spintex-East Legon Bypass interchange
is a critical project that will shape commuting in that part of the city, same as the interchange
connecting Nungua to Tema. This government is building 5 interchanges at a go, including the one
at PTC Takoradi. In terms of kilometres of roads done, we have constructed more roads in 7-years
than the NDC did in 8-years.
8. This Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has made the biggest investment in our educational sector.
10-state of the art STEM schools have been built. Several blocks of classrooms and dormitories in
all other existing SHS, and colleges of education have received monumental infrastructural
projects. Free TVET and SHS policies have been set in motion to improve access to education and
its quality. Supplied unparallel teaching and learning materials; as well as logistics to the GES. This
government has also borne the cost of registration for both BECE and WASSCE.
2
NPP: DEVELOPMENT IN FREEDOM
9. This Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has made the biggest investment in our health sector. We
completed and operationalised UGMC and completed Tepa Hospital, which was abandoned by the
NDC. Bought 300 new, fit for purpose ambulances for Ghana. It's important to mention that Ghana
had only 54 functional ambulances across the country until the NPP came into office. Agenda 111
is fully on course, and some of the hospitals will come on stream by December. Today, Ghana is the
leader of the world in the medical drone delivery system thanks to this government, a system that
is saving lives and making impact in health delivery.
10. TheAkufo-Addo/Bawumia governmenthas investedheavilyin sportsinfrastructure.Ghana hadonly
3 AstroTurf facilities, but today, we have over 160. 10 new modern 5,000 seating capacity youth
resource centres across the country have been constructed. We have completed the UGSC at
Legon, while the construction of an ultramodern new track stadium at Borteyman is underway.
11. The Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has done more in industrialisation. 5 new vehicle
manufacturing plants within 7 years. Over 100 new factories under 1D1F. Business resource
centres and support facilities. This government has helped youth startups through the innovative
presidential pitch programme and GEA support programmes.
12. Currently, unemployment stands at 4.7%, which though is lower than what we inherited from the
NDC, yet I concede that unemployment is still a big problem for us and a lot more needs to be done.
This government has created over 2 million jobs and still counting. On the comparative record, I will
trust the NPP more to be able to deal with the canker of unemployment than the NDC. Lest we
forget, John Dramani Mahama, as president, told us that he's not a magician to create jobs. Akufo-
Addo is not a magician too but he's creating jobs in exponential volumes.
13. From all accounts and comparative records, if not for debaucherous and uncanny politics,
organising demonstrations with seeming mindset to cause chaos, then, it's not far to see the
remarkable efforts of this government. It took this government to achieve the roll out of national
identification, which is a critical element in the transformation of an economy. Today, we are in the
era of Ghana Card and digitalisation, thanks to this government.
14. In conclusion, the gallant youth of this country deserve better. We are in difficulties, no doubt about
it. But I can state unequivocally that all young people around the world share similar stories as we
do here, though with varying degrees, but sufficiently, there's global stress on us all. I have absolute
trust in this government and the efforts underway to get us out of the woods. Let's not forget that
Ghanawasthefastestgrowingeconomyintheworldin2018.Thistranslatedintojobsandreduction
in some benchmark values, stable cost of living. This government has a track record of 'fixing' and
will continue to do so.
We are working for you!
We are fixing Ghana!
God bless our homeland, Ghana!
End.
