Unit Volleyball (Beginner Class)
Day 2
Objectives: By the end of class all students will be able to:
 Perform the basics of passing a volleyball
 Be able to execute a simple serve
 Be able to execute a spike
 Know the motion of how to perform a block
 Organize as a team to play a volleyball game
 Have a general understanding on the rules of volleyball
Equipment:
 Volleyballs (# class dependent)
Safety:
 Make sure space is open and free of foreign objects during drills and game
Assessment Suggestions:
 Direct observation
 Completion of drills
 Effort of participation in the game
120 minutes total
Minute 0 to 5 Locker room dressing out meet in classroom
Minute: 5 to 10-15 Warm-up activities/ expectations
ZigZag Relay; split into 2 teams; half of the team on one side the other half on the other
separated by about 2-3 feet in a straight line on each side. The first person passes to the next
person in the other line then they pass it to the next person in the other line this continues till the
ball travels successfully all the way down the lines and back.
Minute 10-15 to -55
Bump to bump passing
Set to set passing
Under hand serving to catch
Over hand serving to catch
Spike to pass
Bump to set to spike (pepper)
Minute 50 - 55 to 110
Split everyone into 2 games serve to start object is to count how many times you can return the
ball successfully to the other side. You get 3 hits to get the ball over the net. See which game
can have the longest volley. Add in rotational skills to change who is serving and where students
are receiving/ returning volleyballs.
Minute 110 to 120
Send students to locker room to prepare for next class
