The need for meaningful activity is reported as a priority for people with dementia both living at home and in care services. Technology is commonly used to facilitate activity and entertainment in the general population, yet its application in dementia care is mostly to provide an ‘assistive’ function, often where the person with dementia is not the intended user. Devices featuring touchscreen interfaces, such as tablet computers, are considered to be intuitive and there is growing evidence that people with dementia are able to use them. The challenge is in identifying suitable and accessible applications (apps) on these devices. Original development is one option, but the benefit to using existing software is that there is greater choice and availability and any risk of stigmatisation is avoided. The AcTo Dementia project is focussed on (1) identifying key features within touchscreen apps that increase their accessibility for people with dementia; (2) developing a shareable framework that can be used to find existing ‘dementia-friendly’ touchscreen apps; (3) working with app developers to improve the accessibility of existing apps for people with dementia; and (4) creating a website to share app recommendations and support guides for people with dementia or people in a supportive role (www.actodementia.com).

“It is estimated that 8 million Americans have an eating disorder – seven million women and one million men,” and that “[o]ne in 200 American women suffers from anorexia” (DMH). In 2013, anorexia is a highly known issue. It is no secret that anorexia is on the rise in society. Since statistics have increasingly soared through the last decade, more people are becoming concerned with the dangerous issue, including Dorothy Grice, MD. She states that anorexia is a disease that can be passed down through generations (Grice 39). On the other hand, Sharlene Nagy Hesse- Biber, a professor of Women’s Studies at Boston College, argues: “Anorexia is a self-inflicted eating disorder” (233). There are several different approaches when considering how to label anorexia ultimately showing that “anorexia nervosa” should be categorized as a type of an eating disorder, not as a disease. Student 1 Good Student Professor English 1 February 22, 2017 Argument Essay A Technological Approach “Few individuals in the world are untouched by some form of technology; they wear it on their wrists, carry it in their pockets or purses, go to sleep and wake up to it, and may even depend on it to keep their heart beating at the right pace” (Odom et al. 3805). There is nothing that technology cannot do. So why not use this technology to create more opportunities for people with disabilities? The topic of disabilities has been around for hundreds of years ranging further back than the Middle Ages where people with disabilities were pushed away from society and thought to have demons inside of them and that the only option was to kill them (Mackelprang 5). Since then, studies have continued to develop new ideas, the biggest progression being in 1990 with the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (an anti- discrimination law based on disability). This opened windows for people with disabilities to get the help they need, doctors to develop new treatment plans, and researchers to develop new technology. The biggest obstacle regarding the use of technology is the cost, however the overall outcomes from it grossly outweighs the initial price for the devices. Also, an important thought to keep in mind is that not every child or adult is capable of properly handling devices (Darewych 100). It is clear that recent developments in technology have drastically increased the health and wellness of people with cognitive disabilities through empowerment, stimulation, and community access. Student 2 There are several different ways to interpret certain subject matters. For the purpose of the current argument, the following terms will be defined: cognitive- “the action or process of knowing” (OED), disability- “a physical or mental condition that limits a person’s movements, senses, or activities” (OED), independence - “the fact of not depending on another…[or] individual liberty of th.

Autistic spectrum disorders are categorized under developmental disorders and lead into a wide range of symptoms in the patients. They are referred to as autism spectrum, since the intensity and the extent of their symptoms vary person to person based on disorder's intensity. In this study, a smart toy car was developed for screening children with autism. In making the toy car, field-programmable gate array was exploited which is an integrated circuit capable of high-speed planning. Appropriate selected features were the ones that identified repetitive and stereotypical motions in movement, which are normally comprised of 9 features. Finally, in the most appropriate conditions, the classification of aforementioned features was carried out using support vector machine algorithm with polynomial kernel with an order of 5. Autistic children screening was carried out with an accuracy of 100%

1 1 Abstract—With the advent of the technological world, the technology is getting more and more advanced day-by- day. Artificial Intelligence (AI) can possibly affect pretty much every part of medical care, from identification to forecast and anticipation. The appropriation of new advances in medical services, nonetheless, slacks far behind the rise of new advances. An elementary understanding of developing Artificial Intelligence proceedings can be basic though wellbeing couldn't care less experts. These advancements incorporate master frameworks, mechanical cycle robotization, regular language preparing, Artificial Intelligence, and deepest understanding. In the research article, different technologies have been derived for the detection of different health diseases. First of all, background knowledge has been taken under consideration. After that, diseases like Diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease and health disease have been discussed. It has been evaluated that technologies are providing extremely efficient results with higher level of accuracy which shows that the discussed technologies are contributing at their best level. The proposed methods for the discussed diseases in different research articles have also been evaluated and highlighted. Every technology has its own benefits. The standard Salesforce Approval process can be limiting in many ways, especially in complex scenarios. What if there was a way to implement very flexible approvals where one can use Apex code to make data updates in unrelated records, dynamically generate next steps details, and compute assignees on the fly? And still use UI-based configurations to implement concrete approval processes. In this session, we will share ideas behind such a solution and show a few lines of code to get you started.

Syngulon’s technology expands the capacity for selection of microorganisms. The ability to select individual microbes with a behavior of interest is essential, whether for simple cloning at the bench, or for industry-scale production. Synthetic biology uses the concept of “bioengineering” to improve or modify existing genetic systems to create microbes with desired behaviors, and Syngulon uses this approach to develop its selection technologies. This selection technology is based on bacteriocins, ribosomally-produced peptides naturally made by most bacteria to kill competitive microbial species. These bacteriocins can have a limited or wide target range against other microbial species. This technology offers advantageous over antibiotic selection for several reasons: it avoids the use of antibiotics in the first place, helping to reduce the spread of antibiotic resistant microbes. The technology also increases product yield; as bacteriocins are generally smaller peptides, they do not impose a heavy metabolic burden on the producing cell. They can have a wide target specificity, helping to avoid genetic drift. Finally, our system is 100% plasmid-based (e.g. without chromosomal mutations), making it applicable for use in any E. coli strains.

ScyllaDB has the potential to deliver impressive performance and scalability. The better you understand how it works, the more you can squeeze out of it. But before you squeeze, make sure you know what to monitor! Watch our experienced Postgres developer work through monitoring and performance strategies that help him understand what mistakes he’s made moving to NoSQL. And learn with him as our database performance expert offers friendly guidance on how to use monitoring and performance tuning to get his sample Rust application on the right track. This webinar focuses on using monitoring and performance tuning to discover and correct mistakes that commonly occur when developers move from SQL to NoSQL. For example: - Common issues getting up and running with the monitoring stack - Using the CQL optimizations dashboard - Common issues causing high latency in a node - Common issues causing replica imbalance - What a healthy system looks like in terms of memory - Key metrics to keep an eye on This isn’t “Death-by-Powerpoint.” We’ll walk through problems encountered while migrating a real application from Postgres to ScyllaDB – and try to fix them live as well.
