1. DLS8: Dymo Label Software v8 Dymo Label Software Version 8, or DLS as it is affectionately known, was just released and already Label Value has been getting lots of calls about it. Since some of our customers might be too shy to call us, or are the self-help type, we thought we'd overview the product, identify some features you should know about and provide general guidance. So without further adieu, we'd like to introduce you to the Dymo Productivity Software Suite. Coinciding with the introduction of the LabelWriter 450 series printers, Dymo released its Dymo Productivity Software. It includes Dymo Label Software Version 8 (DLS8), Dymo File LT, Address Fixer and Dymo Stamps - pretty much the best of the best is now packed onto one CD.DLS8 has an all new drag and drop oriented user interface and places the most common features at your fingertips while saving time navigating pull down menus. More than 60 label layouts can be found and a wide selection of preformatted templates are available for use or modification through the label Designer.Printing from popular programs like Microsoft Word continues to be supported, but Dymo takes it a step further with the new Quick Print Widget. Quick Print installs into the Windows System Tray and runs independently of DLS, allowing simple paste and print from any program - functionality while on the fly.Address Book enhancements have been made and now Microsoft Excel Files as well as CSV (Comma Separated Value) Files can be imported. My favorite new Address Book feature is the ability to direct the source of data to Microsoft Outlook or the Dymo Address Book. For me, the ability to draw contacts from Outlook and also commonly printed label phrases like product descriptions, customer names and project names which I store in the Address Book is great. Put simply, I have turned the Address Book into a List Book. Some of the other new features are much more visual such as the selection of the label templates, zoom in and out features (great for detailed design work), a hot list of recent labels layouts, filter and search abilities and a more robust clip art library. Quick links to Dymo File LT, Address Fixer and Dymo Stamps are also part of the product. What is Dymo File LT?Described by Dymo as the
Smarter way from paper to digital,
this utility is designed to convert piles of paper files into searchable digital documents. The LabelWriter plays the critical role of printing a bar code, which helps your sheet-fed scanner or multifunction printer/scanner link the paper documents to the Dymo File software which then handily converts the document into Word, PDF or Excel files. The address is then standardized and the Zip+4 code is determined. The Zip+4 allows the addition of the POSTNET bar code to the label which speeds automatic mail sorting and delivery. What is Dymo Stamps?Simply put, Dymo Stamps allows any LabelWriter Turbo, Twin Turbo, or DUO user to print USPS approved stamps at their desk without making a long term financial commitment, without leasing equipment or subscribing to long term services. What if I prefer to use DLS7 or want to run both versions?DLS8 is required for the Dymo LabelWriter 450, LabelWriter 450 Turbo, LabelWriter 450 Twin Turbo. It also supports the LabelWriter 4XL and previous versions of printers the LabelWriter 400, LabelWriter 400 Turbo. LabelWriter Twin Turbo, LabelWriter Duo, LabelWriter 310 (models 90966, 93029 & 93034), LabelWriter 315 (model 90875), LabelWriter 320 (models 90892, 93031 & 93036), LabelWriter 330 (models 90891 & 93037 USB Only), LabelWriter 330 Turbo (models 90884, 93033 & 93038 USB Only), LabelManager PCII, LabelManager 450, LabelManager 450D and LabelPoint350. It is important to note that the installation of DLS8 does not overwrite previous versions, although you do have a choice to import previous preferences and templates as well as Address Book data. Because of this, both DLS 7 and 8 can be run at the same time on the same PC.A Few Notes For More Savvy Users.DLS8 can import previous .LWL labels but not tape label .DILs you may have saved for your LabelWriter Duo. Although we have no specific information on this, we assume it will be resolved later this year when Dymo updates the Duo to 450 Series specifications.
