  • 4. A2 40 Under Forty Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal | mspbj.com March 26, 2010 edit note What’s on the mind of a 40 Under Forty honoree? We wanted to know, so we asked. The responses — which you can Mark Reilly | Project editor see for yourselves in the following pages — are as varied as the 40 hon- orees themselves, and they give a good idea of the sort of achieve- ments that have become just a part of everyday life for this crew of business and community leaders. For those unfamiliar with this project, each year we spotlight some of the region’s most talented and successful young leaders. We regularly receive hundreds of nominations, selecting from those entries 40 men and women who have established them- selves as leaders in the Twin Cities and are poised for even bigger things. If you do business here, an honoree is somebody you’ll want to know — if you don’t already. We tried something a bit different this year, giving over more space for the honorees to express themselves in their own words. That approach seems to fit well in a culture where “What’s on your mind?” personal statements are part and parcel of daily life, and it directly led to the Twitter-esque design of the publication. We tried to keep the questions fairly on topic and relevant to honorees’ careers and achieve- ments. There are also a few to let the 40 reveal a bit about their personalities, but we tried hard not to include any “If you were a tree …” questions. (The answer’s always “maple” anyway.) Of the questions we asked our honorees, my favorite was “Name something that you thought was cool, then thought was lame, and now think is cool again.” Some of the respons- es were off-the-cuff and some were deeply introspective. A couple people said they never recalibrated their coolometers to begin with. My one regret: We simply couldn’t fit all of their answers on our pages; some of them got squeezed out. Fortunately, there’s still space on the Internet: Feel free to visit mspbj.com and When you donate to a cause you believe in, you feel good about your contribution. find their complete surveys and profiles there.
