shortage (such as lab technicians on medical leave) to ensure seamless laboratory
operation.
Coach and guide lab technicians on instrument troubleshooting after office hours
whenever they call.

basic calibration and operation of lab instruments and LIMS. Also train lab
technicians in preparation for their skill block assessment.
Subject matter expert in many critical lab instruments (e.g. GC, LC, IC etc).
Troubleshoot and resolve efficiently whenever there are issues to minimize
disruption to the manufacturing process. Contact vendors for technical service, if
needed.
Perform regular internal calibration and maintenance of lab instruments according
to established calibration program. Also coordinate with vendors for the major
calibration and maintenance of lab instruments.
Manage the calibration program of all the lab instrumentation and ensure their
calibration and maintenance schedule are adhered to.
System administrator of critical lab instrument software like Empower (for LC &
GC), IC Net (for IC) and Tiamo (for KF & titrator). Manage user accounts,
organize data into monthly folders and archive/backup the data regularly. Also
responsible for investigating and troubleshooting software-related problems.

Jul 1997 – Feb 2010: Junior Chemist, Dynea Singapore Pte Ltd
Responsibilities:
In the absence of the analytical chemist whom was not employed during the two
years from 2005-2007, the daily running of the analytical lab was kept in good
and smooth operation.
Guide the analytical chemist in the daily running of the analytical lab by giving
Technical information in solving the competitor resins and board profile.
Support the chemist in writing analysis report, ensuring timely and accurate
results.
Hands on experience in the analysis of glue resins, panel boards and particle
Boards from Asia Pacific plants ( Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Vietnam,
China, Indonesia, India, Malaysia and Singapore ) using wet-chemical titration,
instrumental techniques such as Karl Fisher titration, UV-visible
spectrophotometry, Fourier-Transform Infrared Red, Size extrusion
Chromatography, High Performance Liquid Chromatography and Gas
Chromatography.
Analysis of competitor resin and additives like plasticizers and hardness using
Wet analysis and instrumental methods.

4. Calibration of the analytical instruments and setting up of new method for the
CHN combustion instruments, HPLC and GPC instruments.
Train newcomers on analytical tests and lab equipment.
Maintenance of the analytical instruments suchas water deionizer, FTIR, UV
spectrophotometer, GPC, HPLC and GC.
Take part in regulatory plant audits.

ACHIEVEMENTS:
Feb 2010 – Present:
Acting for Laboratory Manager when she was on maternity leave for 3.5 months.
Performed her duties such as human resource planning, coordinating with
Operations department and supporting their needs, advising lab technicians on
non-routine sample preparation etc and concurrently, also fulfilling the lab
specialist’s responsibilities.
In the absence of Laboratory Manager, was put in charge of planning and
coordinating the lab activities during plant major shutdown in Oct 2013, during
which many utilities were not available at different timings. Consulted and
coordinated with various departments before planning the lab shutdown schedule
and briefing/delegating lab technicians’ work tasks accordingly. Ensured all lab
instruments were not affected by the shutdown by performing proper shutdown
and startup of the equipment. Also ensured that the lab was still able to support
Operations testing during this time with minimum lab instruments in operation.
Improved lab productivity by training the F&P production technicians in entering
of results in LIMS for the tests that they perform, thus resulting in reduction of the
lab technicians’ work load. Previously lab technicians had to enter all results in
LIMS for all tests performed and the lean manpower means that the lab
technicians were stretched in their work. The training materials were prepared
from scratch and in a comprehensive manner, describing different scenarios for
easy understanding.
Developed a Test Method NPOC for carbon Furnace samples wastewater to
analyse for the Non-Purgeable Organic carbon before discharged to sea.
Possess self-initiative in picking up instrument and software troubleshooting skills
through the years with mostly on the job learning and advice from vendors,
resulting in my capability to diagnose the root cause independently and resolve
efficiently, i.e. release the instrument for use within a day.

5. As lab trainer, set up a proper training system when previously there was none.
Design, plan and conduct the training of the technicians, qualifying them for
testing with proper training records.
Set up the Kanban system for the lab chemicals and consumables inventory when
previously there was no proper system to monitor the lab supplies, thus frequently
running into incidents when the lab supplies ran out of stock and not able to
support testing and consequently affecting business needs. With the Kanban
system set up, eliminated 95% of these incident occurrences. This resulted in
significant time and cost savings.
As lab purchaser, buys lab supplies with the best value by driving comparison of
prices and delivery times among the vendors. Contributed significant cost savings
of approximately $50k per year to the company.
Initiated and set up the lab chemical list for tracking the shelf lives of these
chemicals when previously there was no such monitoring program and resulting
in expired chemicals unwittingly used.
