stereotypes and prejudices.

tempo multiculturale.
Così la nostra Associazione Nazionale
decide di promuovere intercultura
all’interno di due dei municipi di
Roma (II e X), creando luoghi dove,
trasversalmente, fare circolare saperi
alla pari, fra autoctoni e nuovi
residenti.
La Banca del Tempo Multiculturale
che si trova, oggi, nel secondo
Municipio della città di Roma.
Questo sportello è nato nel 1998
(dopo due anni dalla prima banca
romana nata a Villa Lazzaroni in
Roma ) grazie ad un progetto di SOS
Razzismo Italia.
To offer time in exchange of time, and
knowledge in exchange of
knowledge is the main task of
every bank of time; to offer
solidarity in exchange of solidarity
and culture in exchange of culture
is the motto of our Multicultural
Bank of Time.
That’s how our National Association
promote interculture within two
districts of Rome (2nd and 10th),
making possible the exchange of
cultures, as equals, between locals
and new residents.
The Multicultural Bank of Time,
which is located in the second district
of Rome, was born in 1998 (two
years after the first roman bank,
founded in Villa Lazzaroni in Rome)
thanks to a project of SOS Razzismo
Italia.
3. Oggi gestita a livello volontario,
inizialmente patrocinata direttamente dal
Comune di Roma – Uffici diritti dei
cittadini – attualmente fa parte costituente
del Coordinamento Banche del Tempo di
Roma e Nazionale. Al momento, 20 sono
gli sportelli delle Banche nell’area
romana. Fra i 20 esistono anche sportelli
tematici come quello legato alla musica e
quello dell’informatica i quali raccolgono
in maniera trasversale i correntisti
provenienti da ogni banca del tempo.
La nostra banca del tempo multiculturale è
nata dall’esigenza di interagire
positivamente con le culture diverse dalle
nostre ma che risiedono nel nostro paese,
nella nostra città, nello stesso quartiere,
spesso ignorandosi o peggio generando
conflitto.
Fare della diversità un elemento positivo
da conoscere e farsi conoscere è il
nostro obbiettivo.
Today is managed by volunteers (initially it
was sustained by Rome’s city hall itself)
and it’s part of the head of National’s
Banks of Time. At the moment, there are
20 exchanging places in Rome. Among
these 20, there are also exchanging places
linked to music and informatic which
collects the users from every bank of time.
Our multicultural bank of time was built from
the need of a positive interaction with
different cultures that are located in our
country, in our cities and in our districts,
often disregarded or rejected.
To make out of “diversity” a positive
element, to know and to let us know is
our aim.

lavorano, all’interno delle famiglie
residenti e, perché vicina all’Università
“La Sapienza”, frequentata da molti
studenti stranieri, oltre che da studenti
fuori sede, da qui l’idea di coinvolgere tutti
negli scambi di “dare” ed “avere” a più
livelli di competenza. Con la fusione del
secondo e terzo municipio, oggi gli
stranieri sono oltre 20mila. Dei quali più
di 9mila risiedono nel quartiere
Nomentano Italia, proprio dove è ubicata
la nostra banca. E così si scambiano cibi
etnici ( cus cus arabo, yuakamole
africani, danze latinoamericane) e tante
altre cose che ormai cominciano a far parte
della nostra quotidianità.
Our exchange point germinated in a
district with a great number of
immigrants, because it is located near
Termini’s station (the biggest railway
station in the capital), in this district
immigrants works for residents and
study in the University “La Sapienza”
which is close by, from here was born
the idea of involving everyone in these
exchanges of “give” and “take” in
multiple layers of competence.
With the fusion between the second and
third district, today there are 20.000
immigrants of which 9.000 are located
in Nomentano Italia district, right were
our bank is.
That’s how is possible to exchange
between ethnic dishes (Arabic cus cus,
yuakamole guatemalteco, zighinì
eritreo), foreign languages (russian,
english, chinese), exotic dances (from
Africa to South America) and many
other things which are already
integrated in our daily life by now.
6. I nostri operatori sono tutti di diversa
nazionalità ed accolgono i correntisti,
svolgendo anche un’azione di mediazione
culturale fra gli autoctoni e gli stranieri.
Un piccolo universo, il nostro, che ad
oggi conta oltre 700 iscritti.
Poco meno, circa 600 per l’esattezza, i
correntisti di della BDTM di Ostia,
gestita anch’essa da SOS RAZZISMO
Roma e Lazio. Nel X municipio di
Roma, la popolazione straniera è molto
alta sono circa 27mila su oltre 250mila
residenti. I laboratori interculturali
creati, spaziano dalla pittura creativa del
maestro Colombiano Julio, alla lingua
araba della mediatrice linguistico-
culturale Luisa, per i bambini figli di
migranti arabi finalizzata al
mantenimento della loro identità
culturale, poi corsi di italiano ed ancora
teatro multiculturale e danze etniche.
We have a multiethnic staff which
welcomes the patricipants and
mediate locals with immigrants.
A small universe that can count on more
than 700 subscribers .
A little less subscribers (600 to be
precise) are the users of the
Multicultural Bank of Time in Ostia,
managed by SOS Razzismo Roma
and Lazio. In the 10th district,
foreigners are about 27.000 on
250.000 residents.
Our intercultural laboratories go from
paintwork courses with the colombian
master Julio, to arabic language
lessons with the linguistic-cultural
mediator Luisa that are needed for the
childrens of arabs immigrants to
maintain their cultural identity,
furthermore, italian courses and
acting classes.

8. A spanish lesson inside the Bank of Time of the 2° District
bullismo Lo abbiamo denominato
“Sportello della socialità“ ed i nostri
mediatori hanno supportato gli operatori
interni all’Istituto, tutti ragazzi
frequentanti la scuola stessa. I ragazzi
hanno svolto scambi di “saperi” di
gruppo, con l’operatore nigeriano
piuttosto che peruviano ed
automaticamente fra una partita di palla
a volo ed una di playstation si
avvicinano a mondi a loro lontani che
oggi coabitano con noi, abbattendo il
muro dei pregiudizi e della diffidenza,
facendo tesoro delle diversità.
Both the exchange points, interact
within every other exchange point of
“Banca del tempo di Roma
Association” of which we added a
new exchange point dedicated to the
kids in middle school, where the
bank had a function of sociality,
multicultural information and
diversity education. This tool,
baptized against bullying, was named
“Sportello della socialità”
(Window of sociality) and our
mediator supported every kid in the
school as well as their operators.
The boys exchanged “knowledge” with
the Nigerian or Peruvian operator in
between a volley match and a
playstation game, getting closer to
far away worlds that today
cohabitane with us, breaking down
the wall of prejudices and distrust,
making treasure of diversity.
