Analysing vacancy trends in the Investment Banking sector in London
New Vacancies for Front & Middle Office in Investment Banks in London




•    Last few months has seen a big increase in vacancies for front office roles in London.


•    Vacancies for middle office have been gradually increasing also.


•    Vacancies have been at the more junior end of the scale for front office, interestingly the
     emphasis has shifted to more senior people for middle office roles.

   •   Corporate Finance vacancies have been scarce for most of the year.


   •   There has been a slight uplift in vacancies for traders.


   •   Main growth in front office has been for Investment Managers.

    •   There has been a gradual increase in vacancies for Risk & Compliance people over the year.


    •   This trend has been mirrored with Accountants, with new vacancies up nearly 20% in the past three
        months.


    •   Banking Operations vacancies have seen a slight fall though.
New Vacancies in UBS Europe compared to the Market by Division as % (Jan/Jun 2012)




      •   For the first half of the year UBS had a clear majority of vacancies for Risk & Compliance.


      •   One other exception was in Corporate Finance with very little vacancies there.


      •   However in all other areas UBS was close to overall market patterns.

      •   Post July UBS had a noticeable shift in recruiting strategy, with no vacancies for Corporate
          Finance or Trading/Broking. This is in line with their announcement of pursuing a wealth
          management strategy.


      •   Also worth noting is the big shift in hiring for Accountants to introduce Financial Control, no
          surprise given the recent court case!


      •   Its worth noticing that across the market the emphasis of vacancies has clearly shifted to middle
          office.
