1. Press Release
April 3, 2007
The Antiques Clothes Show
Oxfam Vintage, Preston, is to hold its first ever exhibition of its unique clothing range. This will give students as well as the general public the chance to explore old fashions that, over time, have become popular once more. The exhibition named The Antiques Clothes Show, will take place at the popular student nightclub, 53Degrees, Preston. The exhibition is aimed at encouraging new, incoming students of the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) to take interest in the unusual clothes that are stocked in Oxfam Vintage. Therefore the exhibition will be held during UCLAN’s fresher’s week, September 26, 2007.
By raising awareness of the Oxfam Vintage store and encouraging more people to shop there, Oxfam intend to inform the students of their main purpose – to empower those in third world countries and raising enough money to give them the tools to work their way out of poverty. Helen Shaw, manager of the Preston store, has said: “I would like to inform more students of the work that Oxfam does. This event will enable me to do so, as well as encouraging more students to be more open minded about the range of clothes that we have in-store”.
The Antiques Clothes Show 2
Oxfam intend the exhibition to be a glamorous event. Local celebrity, Sally Lindsay, ex star of well-known soap opera, Coronation Street, will be appearing to talk about the purpose of Oxfam and to announce the competition. The competition requires the entrant to go onto the stores ‘MySpace’ site and send Oxfam Vintage a message detailing, in no more than 50 words, why they believe they should be the winner of £50 Oxfam Vintage vouchers.
The event will start at 7.30pm and each guest will be greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne. The bottom floor of 53Degrees will be divided into sections allowing room for displays of iconic fashions (both male and female) from each era: 1940’s and 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s, 1980’s and 1990’s and finally the modern day. Each section will be decorated in accordance with the era in which is being displayed, along with music playing by idols from each of the eras. To interest all students, as well as the exhibition, there will also be a fashion show displaying some other ranges of clothes from the store, fitting in with the above eras. Students of UCLAN will model all clothes.
After the fashion show students will be able to browse around the exhibition once more, taking down the codes of any items of clothing that they may like. They will then be able to be purchased the next day in the Oxfam Vintage store.
The Antiques Clothes Show 3
Students should be aware that this service will be on a first come, first serve basis.
The exhibition will finish around 11pm and for those students wishing to continue their night, Oxfam Vintage has made a link with popular local club Lava and Ignite, who will be hosting a special ‘Vintage’ themed fancy dress night. Students attending The Antiques Clothes Show will be allowed free entry into the club before 12am and also receive a complimentary glass of champagne on entrance. All students who want to continue onto Lava and Ignite will be given a special ticket before they leave 53Degrees.
Helen Shaw believes that: “Although the clothes we sell are second hand, that is the aim of Oxfam Vintage. We recycle old clothes that are now fashionable again and sell them at reasonable prices. The clothing we sell is original, you are unlikely to find the same item anywhere else as it will be quite old”. The Antiques Clothes Show will bring glamour to student life in Preston and is most definitely an event not to be missed.
For more information please contact:
Tel: 01772 203 204Fax: 01772 203 205E-mail: Lhicks@IconicPR.co.ukLaura Hicks
Junior Account
Iconic PR
136 Moor Lane
Preston
PR1 1JR
