Channelview High School has a diverse student population of over 2,250 students. While test scores in English/Language Arts and Social Studies are high, improvement is needed in Math and Science, especially for African American students. To address this, the school implemented Curriculum Based Assessments and the AWARE software program to analyze student performance data. Teachers input lessons into Forethought for sharing. Department chairs meet with administrators to review AWARE data and make curriculum adjustments where needed. A chain of command was established for oversight of the new technologies and continuous improvement process.

3. Channelview High School is located in Channelview, TX—an
unincorporated community of approximately 30,000 people located
east of Houston. We are part of a petrochemical area that has made
Harris County and the surrounding Houston area a wealthy part of
Texas.

4. Channelview High School is ethnically mixed, diverse campus
that consists of a melting pot of Hispanic, White and African-
American students. There are 233 LEP students and 278
students with special needs with a total student population of
2250 students.

collected, Channelview High
School has various instructional
needs. Their ELA & Social Studies
TAKS results are high among all
economic groups;
however, improvement is needed
on Math & Science, especially in
the African-American group.

9. Implementation
•
We decided after integrating the
different interventions and
strategies that we needed to
develop Curriculum Based
Assessment tests (CBAs). After
developing the CBAs that were
aligned with the curriculum we
needed to implement a system or
instrument that would allow us to
disaggregate the data quickly.

10. Introduce: AWARE
• AWARE is a software
program that scans the CBA
and automatically
downloads the information
into the computer and
breaks down the information
based on certain criteria
selected (different
populations on campus like
ESL or LEP, etc).

11. We also utilize Forethought for our
teachers. It allows teachers to
input their scope and sequence
and to design and enlist different
lesson plans so one or more
teachers can access their lessons
if they choose.

• Once a teacher has
inputted their
information into
AWARE and the
software has
disaggregated the
data, each
administrator meets
with the his/her
department to review
the data.

the department, will present to assistant
principal of their discipline
 Assistant principal and department chair
will present to principal
 Principal will present to Superintendent and
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum
