1. Importance of keeping brain active
a. Working your brain will keep you mind sharp
b. Will push back the occurrence of Alzheimer’s

2. Ways to exercise brain and memory
a. Videos games that are active also help with hand-eye
coordination
b. Perform an activity that uses your hands
c. Pay attention to sensory experience
i. Spice Racks
ii. See if anyone can name all of the spice off of their spice
rack
d. Nap after class or learning something

3. Preventative Alzheimer methods
a. Preventing Alzheimer’s and keeping your brain active go hand in
hand
b. Women: Studies how found that vitamin E, antioxidants or
combined folate/b6/b12 supplementation may prevent older
women from developing Alzheimer’s
c. Seasoned adults: just by walking 3times a week can prevent
d. Online or software brain games
i. Some are free, some cost
ii. Will give your brain a full workout!
3. Input or Procedure The learners will be shown how to do a Sudoku puzzle, so they will be able to
(Modeling) complete their own puzzle during independent practice or when they get home.
1. Practice memory retrieval:
Ask: “What was your first memory?”
Select learners to share their first memories
Ask: “How old were you during this memory?”
Guided Practice
2. Association:
Instructor: “Write down your license plate number or driver’s license number.”
Have learners use words or letters to help associate to the items
Give example: I am from the North West side of this city, my name
begins with an L, I graduated in 2007 and my favorite number is 7.
Independent Practice
(Independent of Sudoku puzzle – some time will be allotted for the learners to work on the

Assessment Instructor assessment should be passed out during this portion. No learner
assessment will be given.
If memory concepts are not understood. Assess what specifically they are
