HELLO EVERYONE!
My name is Lisa Cummings, and today, I come to you with a gift. It’s a gift that you probably haven't given yourself in a long long time.
And that’s to spend an hour and a half focused totally on YOU. Not on your kids, not on emails competing for attention…not on instant messages…instead…all about YOU finding ways to make your work and life feel more energizing, productive, and fulfilling because of one simple shift. And that’s focusing on your strengths.
Okay, as another step in claiming it, let’s use this for Personal Branding purposes. In your career, you definitely want to have an on-purpose brand.
We’re going to use an exercise (over a few steps) called Love, Crazy, Envy…where you explore a strength you really love, one that drives you (or other people crazy) and one that you envy.
For example, I love my individualization. I think it helps me meet people all over the world and quickly find both our similarities and differences. Then I can use that knowledge to customize the conversation to them so that I can treat each person uniquely.
For crazy, that has to be my maximizer. I’m always trying to squeeze out every ounce of value and efficiency. “What if we also” can wear people out (even me)
For envy, I wish I had more analytical. I can do things like accounting or finance, but they take so much more effort. And I just stopped attempting math in my head. It just takes too long—I can walk to the calculator faster.
All of these things factor into my personal brand. And if you’re shaping a brand, you’re showing your good elements (not highlighting your lesser themes). So let’s get started on the LOVE side. Then in as we go through a couple more activities, we’ll go through CRAZY and ENVY.
Now it’s your turn.

The MAIN IDEA for this course is that using your Strengths at work makes you a stronger performer.
And spending time in your weaknesses all day…well, that will weaken your performance.
So Instead of trying to fix yourself, this event is about becoming more of who you already are.
This isn’t a training even about ignoring your weaknesses, yet it IS about nurturing the natural talents in you. These talents have patterns. They’re things you’ve likely been drawn to all your life—ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving. Yet, I rarely meet a person who has focused on their talents throughout their careers.
You’ll see there’s a “file” box here where you can download documents. These are “nice to haves” yet you will be totally fine without them because I take you step by step on screen.
[walk through]
So I know you want to dive into your assessment. You’re a believer now and you see the case for strengths.
So let’s start applying them to your job.
When it comes to your talents, sometimes you ARE what you can’t see.
Sometimes your thoughts, beliefs, and actions are SO YOU that you can’t see that other people don’t think the way you do. You can’t see that they relate to people different from your way. You can’t see that they execute through a different lens.
You know what YOU KNOW so innately that you can’t see what’s unique to you. Until you start looking for it…
And these parking situations are a lot like your natural talents.
You’re used to seeing your talent country…used to using them, and thinking with them every day. So they seem… just… like the way it is. They don’t seem like anything special. It’s only when you start exploring it with intention. It’s only when you focus on the comparison that you see how unique your personal talents are.
Instead of focusing on weaknesses, the big opportunity for your engagement at work and wellbeing in general… is focusing on strengths.
Compared with those who do not get to focus on what they do best, people who have the opportunity to use their strengths daily…are six times as likely to be engaged in their jobs and more than three times as likely to report having an excellent quality of life.
(Rath, T. (2007). StrengthsFinder 2.0. New York: Gallup Press.)
The great news is that you can focus on what you do best. It is a choice. Although there are some job-fit elements here, people can shape their current roles much more than they often give credit to.

Here’s the thing. If you’re trying to fail as often as possible and you’re trying to hustle your way into missing talents, you’re probably subjecting yourself to the Path of Most Resistance.
So rather than failing as often as possible, if you focus on your strengths, you'll succeed more often (that’s the end goal anyway, right?). Failing stops your momentum. Failure trashes your self confidence. And if you’re failing in your job overall, you’re building a reputation as a low-performer. And I’m pretty no one in this training wants that as your personal brand.
