2. Employment within the media industry
• -Film and tv
In the film and tv industry there are plenty of job opportunities to choose from, weather that is in the live tv
sector which includes shows such as the news and talk shows, or it may be in a more creative field like
working on large film sets/productions as a director or set designer etc...
Some large scale companies that hire and work in the media industry include, Disney/Pixar, Universal, Warner
bros and many more that could also include smaller scale and more local production companies, for example,
in the north east you have, North east screen, New enterprise studios, BBC Newcastle and soon Fullwell 73
will be opening an office near Pillion in Sunderland.
Types of jobs in the media industry can vary depending on what sector you would like to be employed under,
so some examples could be: Journalist, Screen Writer, Costume and makeup, Director, Set manager, Location
scout or even self employment. Most, if not all or these routes require some level or in depth knowledge about
the industry so some of the skills I would be looking to acquire for any of these roles would be Knowing a
specialist skill, like creative writing or carpentry for set construction a specialist skill would be useful if you
were seeking a particular job however if you are looking at the industry with less of a concrete idea of what
you want to do then some skills and traits that would help could be strong communication skills, the ability to
work independently with or without a team and having a creative or imaginative mind.
