First of all, why are you tweeting about going to the bathroom?
Here’s how Twitter defines Twitter. Here’s how I define Twitter.
The power and value of Twitter is the ability to connect. It’s a push and pull mechanism – pulling in news and information in your own customized news feed about your friends and family, current events, and entertainment. The stream of info available in Twitter was so valuable that Facebook adopted the practice making your Facebook newsfeed what it is today.
This one tweet contains all of the key components you should be aware of. Here’s how I’d read this story: Todd saw this tweet from gannett whose twitter name is “at gannett”. He wanted to share it so he retweeted it by adding an RT to the front and copying and pasting the tweet. He included the hashtag which is a way of threading and following conversations on a particular topic or commenting ironically (which we can tackle in twitter 201ish) and because the actual link would be too long, he “included a tinyurl” which you can create at bit.ly or tinyurl.com or a few others.
The simplest way to tweet is to go to Twitter.com and just start typing. The one thing I wanted to point about basic tweets is that if you tweet directly at someone, for instance, “@PointRoll is hosting a Twitter training today and I’m giving the presentation!” only people following both PointRoll and me will see that tweet. That doesn’t help spread the word about what you’re doing and limits your reach.
If you need to shorten a tweet that’s fine, but don’t change the content
Listen first. You have a bit opportunity to learn about what’s going on around you.
