7. How many constants?
1. 4y + 6 1. One
2. 7+5 2. Two
3. -6x – 7 3. One
4. 9cde + cde 4. None
8. What is a coefficient?
A number that has given up its "constant" status
and is with a variable like -5v. The -5 is the
bearer of this term's name.
9. Mini Lesson
Whenever you see a variable without a number
next to it like y or n, then the coefficient is
always 1. This invisible one’s existence causes y
to become 1y and n to become 1n.
12. What is the leading coefficient?
It is the number/variable that is associated with
the highest exponent in a group. An example of
this would be 56 + xc9. In this case c is the
exponent of the biggest value.
13. Which is the leading coefficient?
1. 445+6
2. c+5
3. 55+66
4. 67 + 89
14. Which is the leading coefficient?
1. 445+6 1. 44
2. c+5 2. Both c and 5
3. 55+66 3. 6
4. 67 + 89 4. 8
15. What are like terms?
they are terms like 6c and 5c that share the
same variable. 6cx and 5c aren’t the same
variables so they aren’t like terms though.
16. Are these like terms?
1. 3x & x
2. 6y & 5y
3. 7y & 7t
4. 8f & 0
17. Are these like terms?
1. 3x & x 1. yes
2. 6y & 5y 2. yes
3. 7y & 7t 3. no
4. 8f & 0 4. no
18. What is a monomial?
Something (variable, a constant or coefficient
and variable together) with a whole number
exponent (the exponents must always be
positive NEVER negative and they must never be
variables either). It has no adding or subtraction
but may have multiplying and dividing/fractions
if the former isn’t included.
19. Is this a Monomial?
1. 50c5yh9
2. 65x6
3. 67/6
4. 7 - 8f
5. vy/6
6. r-5
7. c+c
8. 7(-8)
20. Is this a Monomial?
1. 50c5yh9 1. yes
2. 65x6 2. yes
3. 67/6 3. yes
4. 7 - 8f 4. no
5. vy/6 5. yes
6. r-5 6. no
7. c+c 7. no
8. 7(-8) 8. yes
21. Words Not to Get Confused By
1. Monotheistic
2. Mono
3. Monopoly
4. Monogamy
5. Monsoon
Ect…….
22. What is a polynomial?
A group of monomials added or subtracted ONE
or more times. This creates binomials, trinomials
and so on.
